It was pulsating, the rock itself embedded with miles of glowing copper wiring.
"He’s waiting in the study," the girl’s voice echoed in my mind. "But look at the basement, Ivy. Look at what he’s been building while you and Dante were playing at love and war."
I looked down through the translucent floor of the vision. Beneath the mansion, in a massive, reinforced cavern, sat hundreds of basalt slabs. They weren't empty. They weren't filled with Dantes or Ivys.
They were filled with children.
Indigo-eyed children, all of them identical to the girl in the penthouse. Arthur hadn't just been trying to merge two souls; he was building an army of sentient interfaces to replace the human race.
