"It didn't feel that way."
That made her spine stiffen, made her chest fill with pressure that needed an outlet. She turned to the long, low dresser and swiped her hands across the top, pushing the empty bags of food and water bottles and whatever else had been sitting there to the floor. And then she slapped her hands against the hard surface, crying out as pain burst through her arms.
Steve grabbed her, pulled her back against his chest. "Don't," he said.
"Let me go."
"No." He pulled her tighter against his chest, his hands like manacles on her upper arms. "I won't let you go."
