Tabitha scrolls through her tablet, reviewing documents, I stare out the window, watching the city move past us. We approach the airport. But we don’t stop at the usual spot. A separate entrance. Less chaotic and more serene. At the entrance, it reads: ‘Private Owned Aircrafts.’ I blink. “Tabitha,” I say slowly, “why are we here?”

Like I don't deserve to have a say in all of this. The private airport stretches across a secluded expanse of land, its runway a sleek strip of asphalt illuminated by evenly spaced blue and white lights. A towering chain-link fence, topped with razor wire, surrounds the perimeter, with security cameras perched at every corner. The main terminal is a sleek, glass-walled structure with tinted windows, reflecting the golden hues of the setting sun.

Rex taunts. “Very funny.” She stuck her tongue at him and stayed quiet all through the ride even after they got into the airport. Cherry was astonished by the big structures of the airport and the buildings surrounding it. It was her first time visiting and entering an airport, the sight was thrilling. For a moment she forgives Rex and all he did to annoy her, what she is seeing at the moment has become one of her favorite days. Cherry gladly followed Rex not minding where they were heading to, not until she found herself inside the plane did she know there was no going back, she has chosen the path he wants her to take.
