The muscle car roared along the shoulder of the highway with its wide racing tires kicking up gravel. Amy barely avoided crashing into the beige Lexus that turned in front of her. She swerved back onto the highway, punching the throttle and sending the muscle car back into a high RPM. Amy tried to stay calm, but she knew that she only had twenty minutes to rescue her child from a moving bomb. A distraction for the second act. “Motorbikes,” Bruce says, and then they’re there. Two black gnats slipping between cars toward us. The first rider lifts an arm too casual to be anything but a weapon. “Left mirror,” I say. Bruce tilts and I lean out and put two into the bike’s front wheel. The rubber unthreads and the rider skates, metal screams, and he becomes a part of the bridge that didn’t exist a second ago. The second bike wobbles, spooked, then commits, aiming to carve our rear tire. Tail car nudges him with the nose and he cartwheels into the van’s open maw like a bad offering to a worse god.

Somewhere help would be able to reach me quickly. I spotted a narrow back road ahead, a shortcut that would lead toward a more isolated area. I could cut through it and circle back toward safer streets. I looked back to see that Mavin was still engrossed in his puzzle before I pressed my foot to the gas. The second I made the turn, I saw another car speeding from the opposite direction, it was one of our cars. I breathed in relief and eased my leg off the speed. The black SUV barreled forward and, without hesitation, double-crossed the sedan, cutting it off completely.

Just as the car is about to crash through the barrier, I shove the door wide open and leap, rolling further from the vehicle as I painfully hit the hard ground. Hearing the crunch as the car collides with the metal, I flip over and watch as the car does exactly as I hoped. The inertia pushed it through the old railing and off the side of the bridge. It plummets to the river below, ending in a loud splash.

Suddenly, a child darted across the road, his eyes shining in the headlights. My foot hit the brake, and my heartbeat quickened. I tried to dodge the kid, but ended up running into the woods. The world turned into a blur of crunching metal and shattering glass. The car finally came to a halt after rolling down the cliff into the lake and hitting my head so hard on a rock.

She collapsed back into the ground, her hand still reaching toward them, trembling with effort. The rumble of an approaching truck sent a shiver of terror through her. The lights on the road were off, leaving her in near-total darkness. She had attempted to cross the main road earlier but when she was pushed, she fell into another side of the road-a forgotten, shadowy stretch running parallel to the bustling street. Unlike the main road, this one was abandoned, its cracked asphalt cloaked in darkness. The streetlights didn't reach here, leaving the area eerily dim, and the vehicles that ever passed through were large rumbling trucks.

He spotted Nick at the drivers seat handling the wheel, while Dave sat at the front passenger seat. "Oh sh!t!" He mumbled, pedalling faster forward, navigating between cars on the main road. Nicholas stepped harder on the accelerator, gaining more speed, drifting between nearby cars with the aim of gaining on Travis. Travis, not giving up pedalled with all his might, as he headed to the bridge above the flowing river that was newly constructed to connect the nearby city of 'Francisco' to his own city 'Torston' by road.

Tracy and Tokodi left soon after the brief conversation with the parents. Tokodi often visited his family who still lived here so he went round showing Tracy all the old spots that had been transformed. Tokodi was driving Tracy’s car and he drove slowly and carefully as the old neighbourhood had poorly maintained roads. Tokodi managed to make Tracy laugh as he reminded her of various escapades they had done in their childhood days. By the time they were driving into the highway, Tracy was in a very pleasant mood.
