Alright, so my brain immediately goes to Tessa Bailey. She's basically the queen of this specific thing. Her 'It Happened One Summer' spinoff, 'Hook, Line, and Sinker', had me flipping pages so fast I got a papercut. The banter is sharp, the tension is unbearable in the best way, and the pay-off is... well, worth the wait. It’s pure, unadulterated fun with characters who feel a bit larger than life.
Some people find her dialogue a little too 'millennial trying to be cool', and I get that, but when I'm in the mood for something that doesn't take itself seriously and delivers on the heat, her books are my first stop. There’s a formula, but it’s a formula I keep coming back to when my brain needs a vacation.
