Adam stares down further with an arched brow like some kind of villain without any morality. “Is this some kind of challenge, hmmm?” His voice drops to a deeper chilling range and when his hand left the wall and took her chin in between his fingers and shiver runs down her spine. Smacking the shillelagh against his palm, and with a wild grin on his face, Dirk started toward the floaters. “Hey!” Dirk turned at the shout. It was Lyle Trilling. He’d got his wish. A floater was half over the rear gunnel. Trilling cracked its skull with his axe handle and the creature slid back into the water. Dirk pointed to four men: “You come with me.” And to three others: “You boys help Trilling. By the time they reached the bow, two more floaters had joined the first and more were coming over the sides.
