I learned to be thankful and quiet. That acceptance made me hate Christmas. Love songs made my skin crawl. The lights under our tree looked like glass eyes. The ribbons on the presents were traps. Every year, the house tuned itself to cheer and I pretended to enjoy it. The twenty-fifth became the night when a new kind of cold touched my bones. It was the day the truth had crawled out at me like an animal. It was the day I had learned how much of my life had been decided by other hands.

I've been ignoring him, but his persistence is becoming problematic. I deleted the message without reading it. The Christmas gala is in two days. The annual event where the city's elite gather to see and be seen, to make deals and alliances over champagne and caviar. I'll need to bring Ava, show her off as my devoted wife, maintain the illusion that everything is fine. She'll smile and play her part because she has no choice. The Trolls were lined up in front of Edmund, ready to take any order. "You're wrong, brother. I never give up, remember?" Edmund in the back chuckled as he played with his golden wand. "You're wrong too, Edwig. I'm better than you, and always will be!" Wiggy didn't answer again, only smiling crookedly as he pulled out his flute. "ATTACK!" Without warning, Edmund exclaimed as he raised his golden staff. The Trolls bellowed in unison at Wiggy, but the youth's agility overcame them. He flew into the air playing the flute. The next instant a pack of Pixies came like a high tide. The Pixies lunged at the Trolls and swarmed them.

Xander groaned internally for he was so close to taste her lips, he was dying to kiss those soft lips of hers. On noticing Scar wasn't ready yet, Kat asked, "Scar, hurry up babe. We gotta leave soon." Scarlett quickly nodded and went upstairs saying, "I'll get changed." Xander was confused by all this. Leave? Where were they leaving to?
