The Lycan King

The Lycan King

she retorted. "Oh, please. Her life isn't at stake here. But yours is." I took the drenched books out of the bag and tossed them on the coffee table. They had a particular smell to them. I picked one up and examined it. It seemed to be bound by animal skin. The paper used was papyrus and the ink used was... I took a closer look and then took a whiff. Blood. There was no doubt that these books were invaluable. She walked closer to them and I saw fear slither into her eyes the moment she read the titles. "He knows."

Healing with the monster

Healing with the monster

The manual typewriter sat on a sturdy wooden packing crate, its iron frame catching the flickering yellow glow of the three tallow candles we had pooled together. The air in the concrete vault was cool but suffocatingly dry, tasting of ancient paper dust and the biting, chemical sting of the acacia-gum ink paste. Julian knelt by my side, his fingers delicately handling a thin, translucent sheet of grease-paper he had unearthed from Yusuf’s mechanical maintenance chest. He used a straight-edge razor to cut the slick paper to match the exact dimensions of the 1974 linen ledger sheets.

The Wolf’s Bride

The Wolf’s Bride

Registus did not expect this. Andrius hit the jackpot. He actually found a clue regarding the Flame Emperor. “Sure!” Registus agreed excitedly. “Wait for me here. I have a collection of classical texts in my private collection. We should be able to understand what the characters describe by cross-referencing them.” Then, Registus walked away. A few minutes later, he returned holding a thick, yellowed scroll. “I haven’t opened this book much before, but it contains rich and detailed texts. It should be useful for reference,” Registus explained briefly and began to cross-reference the small characters on the stone with the texts.

Craved (Book #10 in the Vampire Journals)

Craved (Book #10 in the Vampire Journals)

“I’m not even certain it exists. Vairo’s De Fascino Libri Tres. I am looking for the other half of a missing page.” Slowly, Caitlin reached into her bag and removed the folder and the torn page. She held it out, and the old woman’s eyes widened just a bit as she examined it. After a few moments, she handed it back to Caitlin. “Do you know it?” Caitlin asked. “Do you have it?”

Leesa's Advent

Leesa's Advent

“Perhaps you should just open it up and see what it shows you. Maybe there’ll be nothing to worry about, and you’ll have one less thing on your mind.” Leesa took her hand away from Rave’s and laid it back atop her book. “I think you’re probably right.” She drew a deep breath and flipped the book open to a spot about halfway in. No blank pages awaited her this time. The old parchment paper was filled with writing in the beautiful ancient waziri script. At the moment, she didn’t think there was anyone left alive besides her who could read the writing, except for Dominic of course, if he still survived somewhere inside the Necromancer’s table. Leesa wondered for a moment if she would ever be ab

Reborn to Love: A Vampire's Fate

Reborn to Love: A Vampire's Fate

The scent of citrus and pine linger on the tidier, mostly abandoned half, seemingly infused into the modest racks of books and curios above and beside the desk. I pick up a dusty paperweight made of glass. In it is the likeness of what might be a small hummingbird. It would probably look prettier if the room was more clearly lit. I turn on the torch function of my cell phone to admire the fine lines of its vermilion feathers. The pages beneath it seem to be the first draft of a paper (about Livius’s Odusia, a topic that twinges painfully in the depths of my memory). It’s typewritten and marked for revision. The handwriting is the same as the one from my letters.

To Bleed For You

To Bleed For You

Her eyes were fixed on a massive, ancient pine tree standing right at the border of Thalia's territory. "It is not a wolf. And it is not one of my kind." Maya watched in a quiet, racing panic as Thalia approached the base of the ancient pine. Fastened directly into the thick, dark bark with a rusted iron spike was a jagged piece of aged, weathered parchment. It fluttered violently in the wind like a dying bird. Thalia reached out, ripping the parchment away from the wood. She looked down at it, her brows furrowing into a tight, troubled line before she looked back at Elena.

Compilation Of Short Stories

Compilation Of Short Stories

The first book arrived on a Tuesday, wrapped in plain brown paper and smelling of old leather and ozone. It was a first edition of Agrippa’s Occultae Philosophiae, a text so rare Alistair had only ever read excerpts in digital facsimile. He found it on his usual desk in the university’s Special Collections wing, a room that smelled perpetually of dust and quiet. There was no note, only a single silk ribbon marking a page. His breath caught. He was a man of meticulous order, a historian of grim power, and such an unexpected object in his sanctum was an event of seismic proportions.

I Summoned Death Itself!

I Summoned Death Itself!

Every one of her senses was enthralled with a soothing calm. “Damn it!” Damon’s voice from beyond the great hall. Pushing the door open, Journee saw him buried in mountainous piles of books and scrolls. She watched him hold up a piece of parchment, comparing it to another material. It is foreign. Something I have not handled in real life. Taking a closer look, she recognised it from her history textbooks. Papyrus! OMG! They have ancient Egyptian texts here?! Excitement shot through her veins as her hands trembled with desire. Briefly, Journee allowed her fingers to trace the outline of the hieroglyphics.
