"You tried." The man beside Ava suddenly stepped forward. "Don't believe him." Damon pointed his gun at him. "Tell her the truth." "Tell her who you really are." Ava looked at the man beside her. His expression remained calm. Too calm. "What is your name?" He hesitated. Then said, "Damien." Ava shook her head. "Your full name." Silence. Damon answered for him. "Damien Blackwood." He looked at Ava. "And I'm his twin."

he remarked, his eyes focused on the ground Ava paused, caught off guard. "I didn't know that I needed to send in my schedule." His eyes shot towards her, keen and evaluating. "I saw you," he stated. “With Adrian Calder.” She stiffened. “You know Adrian?” “I know of him.” Damien’s voice was cool and controlled. “He used to date one of our investors. Ended badly.” Ava lifted an eyebrow. "Then?" “So,” Damien remarked as he stood up, “I find it curious that someone with his reputation suddenly shows up now.”

The woman the whole world thought Damien had murdered. The anchor’s voice rose with excitement. “Liam Carver is reportedly confessing that he was held captive and brutally beaten by Carlos Osmond himself. He claims Osmond forced him to testify falsely against Damien Voss. Liam has admitted in being in a secret relationship with Mrs. Osmond, and that Osmond discovered the affair and decided to use him to settle the score with Damien Voss. According to Carver, Osmond captured him shortly after his wife disappeared, tortured him for days to ensure his silence, and orchestrated the entire frame job.”

But the moment I mentioned it, Damien looked completely lost. “You’re too cool not to know things like this, Damien,” I teased, leaning back on the dining chair with my brow raised. He tilted his head slightly, that faint smirk tugging at his lips. “I don’t watch movies,” he said flatly. “Just news broadcasts and sports highlights. So forgive me if I don’t know who Tyler Penny is.” I froze for a second, then burst into laughter so hard my eyes watered. “It’s Tyler Perry, Damien!” I managed between laughs, clutching my stomach. “Oh, never mind. That’s why you have me to educate you on things beyond the stock market and breaking news.”

The Queen turned to the King, her mouth opening to argue, but his raised hand silenced her. Damien’s shadow fell over me as he crouched slightly, his voice low enough for only me to hear. “Don’t look, little flame,” he murmured, the words gentle despite the tension in his tone. “You don’t need to see this.” The trapdoors fell with a sickening thud. My father, my mother, my brother—gone. A scream tore from my throat, raw and uncontrollable. I collapsed to the ground, my legs giving out beneath me. I didn’t need to see it; the sound alone was enough to shatter what was left of my heart.

“I don’t believe anything from a man who watched us bleed and said nothing.” “If you’re so sure I’m lying…” Carter’s eyes flashed, “then kill me. Right now.” Damon stepped forward, lips curled in disgust. “Too easy.” He stared Carter down like he was filth beneath his boots. “If she’s real,” Damon said coldly, “if Tatiana’s really the one pulling your strings, then let her come for you. Let her crawl through the shadows and save you.” He turned, already walking. “Prove it,” he said over his shoulder. “Or rot.”

he says Damon stands from the couch and goes upstairs leaving Raven deep in thought. Was she going to agree to the agreement? And how sure was she that would not fall for him?

The name that popped up in the caller ID infuriated me even more. Screw him. All of them. I slid up the answer icon and placed the phone against my ear, not uttering a word. “Just a little reminder,” Damon’s deep voice filtered through the speaker, stealing my breath as usual. “Anyone that looks at you the wrong way would have his eyes plucked out by me. Anyone puts a finger on you, I’ll cut all ten fingers off.” I sucked in my breath as I listened to him, knowing all too well that he wasn’t bluffing. “So, if you don’t wanna see me get violent, or shed some blood, you’d better warn them to steer clear.”

Amara Voss was flawless, radiant, confident and untouchable. And tonight, she was going to make the world believe it. Damien had stayed behind in Italy, his motives still veiled in smoke and shadows. He was an enigma. He had given her everything—money, access, a pedigree built from carefully forged documents and whispered recommendations in high places. It was all polished and undeniable. Even the most suspicious would find no cracks. She had asked him once why he helped her, but his answer had been nothing more than a half-smile and silence. One day, she would rip the truth from him. But not tonight. Tonight, the fish she meant to gut were much closer.

Any authorities involved with me did, so where was it? DAMON Damon sat at home staring at the news report on James. They showed his mother, who talked about him like he was an amazing person. She wanted everyone to be at the school tonight, to light a candle and raise it in the air for him. That poor woman, Damon thought. She found out so much about her son in the past week. First, he was an abuser, an attempted murderer, and now... he was murdered. That's a lot to go through. His cell rang. He picked it up, not quite taking his eyes off the TV.
