She looked worn out, physically, emotionally, like someone who had been pushed far beyond her limits. Her shoulders sagged, her posture weak, yet there was something painfully stubborn in the way she held herself upright.

SADIE’S POV I woke up around eight, sunlight pressing against the curtains. My phone was heavy on the nightstand, screen already lit with unread notifications. When I opened it, my chest tightened. Photos. Messages. From Damon. My breath caught, shaky, as I scrolled through them. So this was it. The reason Bella had shown up. She hadn’t come out of chance. She had planned it—staged it. Her skin turned pale, showing the loss of blood. “Taste good,” Bella mumbled and licked the lips, holding Casey’s unconscious body. A gleaming wick flashed in Bella’s red eyes. The next second, it turned into a lump of the ball, making her smile. Suddenly, an unstoppable fire slammed the door and entered, where Bella was standing with Casey.

Bella whispered, and Hazel took a deep breath. They made it to the last staircase. By now, the sun had already come out properly. Hazel yanked off the cap of Bella’s hoodie and her glasses, then she grabbed Bella’s hand, turning her around. “Look everyone, Bella is a vampire!” she screamed, causing the crowd of students to stop. “Push me,” Bella said in a low tone, and Hazel hesitated, but the moment her eyes met Fae’s, her hands swung into action, pressing into Bella’s back and sending her tumbling down the stairs.
