Never to Grow Old Together
The first time I find a man's watch in my fiancee Lydia Winslow's car, her father calls me himself to explain it away. "Jonah, you've got the wrong idea about Lydia. That watch is mine. I must have left it there by accident."
The second time, when I discover two movie ticket stubs, her best friend tags me in a group chat. "Don't overthink it. I asked Lydia to buy those tickets for me."
It happens a third time, then a fourth, and every time after that, someone steps forward to cover for her.
By the ninth time, I pull a tie from between the car seats and hold it up in front of her face.
"Whose tie is this?"
Her hand on the steering wheel gives the faintest tremor before she dials a number
