Then I realized that I could not see his last seen, but his display picture was still visible. “Could Tyler have suddenly turned off his last seen because of me?” I asked myself quickly.

"What’s going on? You look like you’ve seen a ghost." I sighed, rubbing the back of my neck. Tanner had this uncanny ability to read people, to see right through them, no matter how much they tried to hide. It wasn’t like he was some sort of psychic, but maybe he was. It was his power after all. "Don’t even," I muttered, not bothering to sugarcoat it. "I can’t keep anything hidden from you, can I?" Tanner chuckled, a knowing glint in his eyes. "Not a damn thing. So, what happened? You look like you’ve just been through the wringer."

I checked my phone—my UsChat app had just finished updating in the background. I opened it and saw the message, timestamped nearly an hour ago. He had genuinely canceled. So, this was not his plan. But I think I knew why he was still here. “So you have plans then why are you here?” I challenged, my own voice now regaining its sharpness, refusing to give him the satisfaction of looking ashamed.

I pull it out expecting the car app rescheduling confirmation. It is not the car app. It is a text from a number I don't recognize. No name. Just eleven words that make the cold from the injection feel warm by comparison. It reads: I saw you go in. I'll be here when you come out.

Clarissa pointed at herself.
