My Last Breath, His Eternal Regret
“Mr. Colombo—let me go! We all witnessed it. Time of death was recorded. If you don’t believe me, go to the mortuary. See her yourself.”
The words finally broke through. Slowly, his fingers uncurled, falling limp at his sides.
I wanted to reach for him then. To tell him it was true. But all I could do was watch, unseen, as despair hollowed him out from the inside.
“She promised me…” His voice cracked. “She promised me forever.” His teeth sank into his lip until blood ran red down his mouth, a mafia prince unraveling into something raw, feral.
And still, he whispered like a man possessed: “She’s not gone. I’ll prove it. I’ll see her myself.”
