Before I arrived Michigan I had stopped at a bookstore in Chicago to get a few things and by a few things I mean, flashcard and book stopper and helps you to bookmark your book at severeal significant pages to you. Do I need to say that the books in the bookstore are wild?!!!!?? I read through some of them and they had do much TMI…that i decided I was going for the clean ones with off camera vibe. I picked up the first book in my shelf rack which I made sure to ask around to see if it was with reading. Right from high school I have always been more of in between reading and writing, because it got to some point, my attention span was fleeing from my presence.

I stood in my apartment; my apartment, my lamp, my bookshelf, my research notes, my life, and I breathed. Outside, Chicago was doing what it did. The El rattled. The wind moved off the lake. Somewhere blocks away a car horn and somewhere else a laugh and somewhere else the ordinary magnificent percussion of a city that never stopped regardless of what was happening inside the lives it held. I went to the desk. I picked up Dr. Webb's notes. I went back to work.

Lagos, Nigeria – July 18, 2035, 6:42 p.m. The bookstore was packed—folding chairs full, people standing along the walls, air thick with perfume, paper, and Lagos heat. Banner above the small stage: “GLOW AFTER THE FIRE – A Conversation with Chinedu Okonkwo.” Chino sat beside the moderator, copy of his book in hand—cover simple: two shadows holding each other under a single bulb, Lagos lights faint in the background. Title in bold white: Glow After the Fire.

The woman I met at the library. I was surprised at first why that book went to uncle but when he explained the reason why, I understand him. He said that it was not yet the right time for me to know everything. Because he is afraid that I might get trauma from what I've read. Of those I will know. So he hid it. "The history of Chicago," I first read its title followed by the opening of the first page. I slowly read what was recorded here and at the same time I was shocked.

I was now convinced that something was bothering him but if there was anyone who should be bothered right now then it should be me because he was the one who left my business and took a full day staring at the skyline while I was killing myself over some stupid baking tutorial videos I cleared my throat loudly. “So I read online that there’s a book titled The Chicago curses. The synopsis says the book has details on the curses that happened in this city from centuries ago.” Miles sighed. “If we’re lucky, we can find something about body swaps and maybe a solution on how to reverse it,” I replied. Miles turned to me with a hard expression. “And you couldn’t find any copy of the book online?”

Three rotating positions now, no face yet. I forwarded it to Nikolai without comment and went to work. Around midday I found Ace in the library. He had pulled three books off the shelf and was reading the back covers one after the other. "Finding anything useful," I said from the doorway. He looked up. "Depends on what useful means." "Are any of them interesting." He held one up. "This one is about the history of organised crime in Chicago. I feel like that is either very relevant or deeply ironic given where I am standing."

She did not need to. In Chicago, a woman with her teenage daughter beside her said the daughter had failed her first year of university and believed her life was over, and that she had given her the book and the daughter had read it in two days and was now reapplying to a different programme in something she actually wanted to study. The daughter looked at Chloe with the slightly uncomfortable expression of a teenager being used as an example and said: "The part about the Milan show. Where you went even though you had no business going. I read that part like ten times."

A moment later, Chicago zigzagged her way to the elderly woman. These days, Grandma Solomon was fairly spirited even though she was confused. Seeing Chicago, she smiled kindly. Chicago's large eyes sparkled as she looked at her, then at the fairy tale book resting on her lap. "Do you like this story book too?" Chicago asked with bright eyes. Grandma Solomon didn't hear well and thought the child wanted the book, so she shakily picked it up and handed it over, "Here..." Charles stepped forward, "Thank you, Grandma, but we don't need it."
