It tilted sideways, as if confused, let out a mechanical chirp, and then drifted lazily into a wall, bumping against the plaster like a confused moth. “Closet,” Kai ordered. “Now.” He grabbed my wrist, pulling me toward a narrow door on the left labeled Janitorial Storage. Mira scrambled in after us, and Kai pulled the door shut just as the heavy tread of boots echoed from the stairwell. The darkness inside was absolute. It was a broom closet, barely four feet wide. The smell was overwhelming bleach, dust, and the damp, metallic scent of Kai’s rain-soaked clothes. We were packed in like sardines. And then, the door shut, leaving just me and Mara. I stared at the now closed entrance. “What room is that?” Mara leaned casually against the counter. “That…” She nodded toward the hidden door. “…is what we call The Underground.” I blinked. “The underground?” She smiled. “It’s a private club space. Basement beneath the Pit.”

Sure enough, with little effort, the lock pops, and I’m able to pull the door open. I squeal in horror at what I’m seeing. Sure enough, two people are standing in the closet, their clothing in disarray, their hands everywhere. While I expected to see people having sex on the clock–I didn’t expect it to be two old ladies. I said quickly, though my heart thumped faster just saying the words. I walked over to the closet, to change into something that didn’t smell like cum or dirt. I pulled my dress over my head and tossed it on the floor. Just as I reached for my pajama shorts, I spotted something odd sticking out from under the bed. “Huh?” I bent down and pulled it out. He tapped on it to confirm it was him. After confirming that everything was ok, he walked out and the door closed. He pressed a button then stepped back. The door moved backwards then a wall slid in front of it to cover it, making it look like a normal closet. No one would even know that there was a secret room behind the wall. Alexander walked out of the closet. He unbuttoned his suit jacket and slid it off his body. His eyes landed on the dress laying on the couch. He walked over and took a look at it.

The closet was filled with racks containing a lot of files and folders. The peon who was a lean elderly man in his forties crouched down on the floor and called me to him. There were lot of small rectangular baskets lying on the floor. Some of the baskets were filled with some kind of notice. And a big bundle of the same notice was sitting nearby.

It was a pensive walk back home with me wondering if I should finally get my head checked. When I got home I dodged my mom and seeing as how it was 5 I started to get ready for the party. After a shower I decided on a rainbow turtleneck and pink jeans from the other side of my closet I liked to call ‘The Butterfly Zone’ because it was filled with bright clothing. As I was slipping on the rainbow stilettos I gave in to an impulse and sent the address to Carson. If he came, good. If not, also good. But I didn't feel like being alone tonight.
