Within two minutes he was done explaining and he stood up.

"Yes, I remembered it was your favorite." I swallow hard and shake my head. "This would have cost a fortune." I glance at the painting on the wall. "Now, my gift feels utterly pathetic." Oak kneels in front of me and cups my face in his hands, staring into my eyes. "Don't be ridiculous. I love the painting." He rises and presses his forehead against mine. "I stumbled across this in the rare bookstore in town and decided I wanted to get it for you." He brushes his lips over mine softly. "It doesn't matter how much it cost me because you're worth everything I own."
