It was like being stared at by something that had been sleeping for centuries… and now had her scent.
It stepped into view.
At first, it looked like the shape of a man, draped in tattered black, face hidden. Then the air shimmered around it, and the shape fractured, splitting into three overlapping silhouettes that moved out of sync, each one whispering in a different tongue.
“Not Tribunal,” Riven breathed, tightening his hold on her. “This is older.”
The thing tilted its head.
