"Is that actual coffee or is it Oren's punishment tea?"

Her eyes fly open, but she sees nothing, pupils blown wide with shock. The bond explodes between us like a star being born. I drop to my knees, unprepared for the sensory onslaught. Across from me, Rain does the same, a strangled sound escaping his throat. Dawn's consciousness floods into mine—fragments of her fear as she faced Sorin, her wonder at Rain's dragon form, her confusion and pain as the shadow magic drained her light. Beneath those immediate sensations run deeper currents—her determination, her loneliness, her hunger for belonging.

Dawn looked at the book and shook her head, “after this chapter, there is not a single mention of the vampires. Ashley nodded, “What about Aiyanna?” “What about her?” “Is there anything written about her as well in this book?” “Nope, other than the fact that she was a wicked bitch who wanted to ruin the world there is nothing here. Who was she, where did she come from nothing?” “What a pity,” Ashley said. Dawn then closed the book and the two kept the book back from where they had picked it up. “Now what?” Dawn said. Ashley spoke, “now let’s go out, and take a walk as I am confused and I want to clear my mind.”

~RUBY Dawn crept steadily upon me, and as the rays of sunlight filtered through the slightly parted bedroom curtains, I sighed. Damn daybreak. The panic that had been growing steadily in my chest became a huge weight as dawn broke, helrading us into a new day. A new day I desperately wanted to avoid. A new that that came with making hard choices. Ethan stirred beside me and opened his eyes, the sleepy look making him as sexy as ever. My heart broke at the thought of him using these same tender eyes to glare at me after I would have gone through with the anonymous caller's plan.
