And clearly inspired by a certain brooding neighbor who refused to stay out of my subconscious.

So why am I freaking out so much? Letting out a breath, I get into bed and move under the covers. I can’t hear the vampires anymore, but I can still feel their energy coming from the first floor. Needing to do something, I grab my phone and open my Kindle app, reading two chapters of a small-town romance before Lucas comes back into the room. “They’re gone,” he says and leaves the door open behind him. “Good. Do you have to carry out orders and kill me now?” “You heard?”

“You think I’m crazy, but that’s the only explanation that makes sense.” I scoffed. “You sound like a conspiracy theorist. Vampires don’t exist, and you’ve got to stop reading all those fantasy books.” Before she could say anything else, I grabbed another slice of toast and breezed out of the apartment. My condolences to the victims, but vampire attacks were just so stupidly unrealistic. Like creatures of the night actually existed. Right, sure. “Mr. Vale’s not in right now.” Celine said at the reception, looking me up and down.

“Excuse me, sir? Will you be checking any of these books out?” He tilted his head at her in confusion. He had reserved no books. The robrarian expected his question and spoke once more. “Your friend with the tail thought you would need these.” She showed him the different titles.
