She kicked the dumpster, the heavy metal clattering and sliding, pinning the vampire against the opposite wall. He shrieked”a thin, pathetic sound”and clawed at the metal, his fingernails breaking off and leaving streaks of black ichor on the steel. He ignored her entirely, his eyes fixed on the discarded duck carcass on the ground, his body convulsing in a seizure of hunger. "You're nothing," Cattleya whispered, her voice trembling. "You're not a king. You're not a hunter. You're just a parasite whose host has died."

Amara went limp in my arms, singing my name in ecstasy as my venom claimed her again, making her mine.
