The wind carried the dust away, but their eerie, glowing eyes still haunted the battlefield as more vampires stepped forward, their hunger unrelenting.

Dipping a finger in it, he brings it to his mouth, and I stare at it in horror as he flicks his grotesque tongue out and he licks it.

The entire room was set up to look like a small library. The shelf slid to the side, and another one was revealed. I picked up the silver blade. It was one of few weapons that could wound a vampire. We weren’t able to heal instantly, and there was some pain, but it wasn’t a significant weakness. “Now, who are you?” He didn’t answer. He simply glowered at me. I shook my head. The young ones were always so stupid. I made quick work of slashing him one time across the chest. He let out a slight cry of pain.

She slipped past the invisible barrier. Emily gasped, trying to turn, but the vampire was already there. Cold, dead fingers gripped her arm. "Found you," the vampire whispered in her ear. SLASH. Talons raked down Emily’s forearm. It wasn't a deep cut, but it was agonizing. It felt like ice water had been injected into her veins. Emily cried out, clutching her arm. Blood—bright, hot, human blood—spilled onto the snow. The scent hit the vampires like a drug. They groaned, their eyes glazing over with lust.

Fresh blood fills the air, but dead blood that only a vampire carries. It sprays all over me and I turn away.

As soon as he came down to bite my neck, I put my blade right through his fucking jaw. He Screamed in pain distracting the other vampires enough for Blaze to break one of the vamp’s necks and put his blade in the other guy’s neck.
