The vampire casually let go of the human he had turned, leaving her lying on the pavement, and walked towards Alice. She raised her gun, but her hands were shaking. There was an ominous tension around the vampire, and it was making Alice’s body tremble in fear. She bit her lower lip, somehow hoping that inflicting pain on herself would give her body control again. Vampires don't only feed on blood, they also enjoy the fear of their prey. It exhilarates them and makes them more vicious.

“I fed early tonight. It threw me off.” I looked at him. “Explain it to me,” I said. He looked at her. “Feeding,” I added. “Like, how does it work? Do you…kill people?” “No, never,” he said. The room fell quiet as he collected his thoughts. “Like everything in the vampire race, it’s complicated,” he said. “It depends on the type of vampire you are, and the coven you belong to. In my case, I only feed on animals. Deer, mostly. They are overpopulated, anyway, and humans hunt them, too—and not even to eat.”

I try to refrain from admiring him, looking so peaceful and thoughtful. We remain thus for a moment, seated side by side until I break the silence. "What do you feed on?" "Well, it depends..." "Of what?" "What do you mean by 'you'. Are you talking about vampires in general or just about my brothers and me?" "Why isn't it the same?" "Vampires need to feed on blood to survive. No matter how they get it. If they have to kill for it, it doesn't bother them." I swallow with difficulty even though I already knew the answer.

I snapped before falling to a stop. Sofie cringed at my words falling silent finally. I lifted my head sniffing the air once more, counting at least an additional three. But only this one was feeding. Lovely. The smell of the now oxidizing blood set my teeth in edge. Vampires fed from humans whose blood was most appetizing to them, it's not exactly a random feed. Well higher ranked vampires had a more refined palate.

She already assumed he was going to rape her. Some vamps just feed and then kill; they do it without caring about how painful it is, or how much their victims scream. Others, like this one, played with their food. They had sick, twisted minds, and tortured people before they drank. It actually wasn't uncommon for them to rape people either. Some are even worse, my dad once dealt with a vamp that used to skin his victims alive. Those are the truly evil vamps, not that all vamps aren't evil, some are just more so than others. The ones that aren't quite so twisted, pick a random victim, snap their neck, have a meal, and move on with their lives. Cold hearted, yes, but still better than torture.

Vampires' forte is from behind and straight at humans, using claws and fangs to squeeze their prey and suck blood. If they are hungry, they will drink human blood when they catch it and then kill it, but if it is not because of hunger, they will use sharp knife-like claws to stab the throat of their prey. Many people tell them to do it because they like to watch fresh blood gush from the neck of their prey, a kind of crazy and perverted hobby. Phoebe was half vampire when she heard that, she involuntarily raised her trembling hand to cover her neck, her heart pounding so hard she could hear it herself.

The situation was becoming more urgent by the day. Even though vampires could eat normal food like other creatures, they only ate in small portions and mostly for appearances or enjoyment. What truly sustained them, what kept their bodies strong and their minds sharp, was blood. Not just any blood, but fresh, potent blood, especially from newly turned or newborns vampires whose energy was still wild and untamed. The elders knew it. Aurora knew it. And whether they liked it or not, they would need more soon.

I smiled feeling how my babies tried to calm me. "Lilly Love, the Vampires managed to adapt with their environment. For thousands of years they learn to feed from the animal and it became their habit." Luca explained it to me. "Well, it doesn't mean they don't suck human's blood or any mythical creatures they want to. They just didn't need to kill some people only for lunch, but they still can and will out of fancy living..." "Well, I believe the nobles still have their own blood slave, though," Finn added and my eyes widened.

I said softly, while pushing him so he was sitting up with his back against the headboard. Everyone knew Vampires loved to feed when Humans were on their lap, it gave them a direct line to the main vein in our necks. It was less painful for the Human too. I ignored his erection throbbing underneath my core as I took my place on his lap. He smashed his lips into mine hungrily, while his hands wrapped in my hair and trailed over my upper body.

Even though he refrained from feeding directly from mortals, they clearly had no qualms about it. Vampires were littered at every corner, some with their teeth sunk in humans, most of them female in various states of undress. There was barely any talking. Just staring, the sounds of lecherous swallows and slurps as the Vampire’s greedily gulped and pawed at the blood and body of their victims and the moans the women they fed from.
