A small glass vial filled with a dense, violet alchemical compound was automatically crushed inside the internal combustion chamber, releasing a thick, oily purple wisp of sulfur smoke from the shoulder funnels. The reaction inside the boiler was instantaneous. The steam temperature skyrocketed, the brass pipes turning a dull, glowing cherry-red color within three heartbeats as the machine’s internal pressure surged past thirty atmospheres in a desperate, suicidal bid to blast through the biological constraints wrapping its legs.
