Maya stepped out from behind the leaves, her phone still mounted, still broadcasting to eighty-thousand people and counting. Her face was the color of a ripe tomato.
"Hi," she squeaked. "I... I’m Maya. And, um, you’re live on the internet."
Julian Vane didn't move. He looked at the phone, then at Maya, then back at the gold-plated clock in his hand. The silence stretched, thick and suffocating.
"Live," he repeated, the word sounding foreign in his mouth.
