that maybe in these books, his mother would write that he was the light in the darkness of her life, and she just didn't know how to show it. But he couldn't have been even wronger. The next pages were really dark and gory sketches that sickened Asher. They were sketches...some baby bodies with dark slashes across them, a childish hand rendered as a serrated blade. Victoria had sketched a tiny crib and scrawled the word ' STOP' all over it. She really did hate him. He turned another page. 05/02/94:

The people at the inn will notice that something is wrong. I understood what it meant when I saw Ryson drinking blood from that maid. Feeding on humans. On weak people. I had read too many books, watched too many movies, heard too many stories about myths and legends, liked fiction very much. Where humans and vampires didn't get along. Most stories ended in romance, hate, war and death. I wondered how my story will be like seeing that my life is now twisted with these creatures. Vampires. Just saying the name creeps me out. Chills running up and down my spine like waves on the sea.

We could have had biological children of our own with our vampire mates all along! We walked into the small library and I realized that this was where they had kept Viktoria. My eyes went to Fynn and I could feel a hiss in the back of my throat as he walked over to a shelf and pulled out three books. I recognized the backs since they were exactly the same as the ones in our library that contained the history of the ancient. I wanted to read them. I wanted to read all of them, but I couldn’t show my excitement just yet. I didn’t know what the beasts would want in return for the books and I sure as hell wasn’t going to hang around here every night reading.

Dazed, Victoria stumbled to her feet, clutching her head as she tried to shake off the fall. Something moved to her left. She jerked, expecting to see the demon lunging for her. Instead a black beast stared her down from the top of the ravine with glowing red eyes. Victoria's eyes widened in fear and she took a timid step back. Its big body was shaped like a wolf but it was hairless. She recognized the creature from her books. A hellhound. Another one appeared, and then another, emerging from the snow like ghosts. I'm surrounded!

Her mother said once, after he’d finished one of the books, he’d even laughed and said, “These people don’t know what they’re talking about.” A chill ran down Victoria’s spine and she straightened. She was also obsessed with vampires. Something about the legendary creatures of the night fascinated her. As a little girl, she terrified her second-grade classmates by bringing in a life-like vampire doll for ‘show and tell.’ She’d spent a full week searching for the perfect doll and finally found one in an out-of-the-way shop specializing in Gothic culture. The doll was equipped with fangs and had fake blood coming out of its mouth. While her classmates had gawked repulsively, she discussed the

She shrugged, a little awkwardly. I smiled back, wanting to put her at ease. “Thank you, Sie. I really appreciate it.” We flicked through some new books and papers while we waited for the pizza to arrive. They were all much the same – long, winding documentation of vampire sightings from the Victorian era, many of which were clearly allegories for something else, like impudent women or the fear of industrialisation.

I heard his footsteps against the floor as he walked towards the bookshelves. “Do you know why they are said to be one of those?” William asked which I responded with a deafening silence. “They are blood drinkers,” he said. “Vampires.” I turned towards him. “But those are just hearsay, Victoria,” he sauntered towards me “just stories the old ladies and mothers used to scare their children to stop them from going out at night.” “If those are not true…then…why is my father still scared of them?” I asked him. He sighed as he put both of his hands on my shoulders.

she suddenly jolted so violently at the sound of that distorted and echoing voice, her gaze fearfully darting around until she finally noticed that translucent silhouette floating close by the bed. Her eyes widened, those tiny hairs on her body raising up with alarm as she stared at the ghost, watching it float closer. It was the silhouette of a young girl from what she could see, as her body kept flickering from time to time like a blurring hologram, wearing what appeared to be a victorian-styled nightgown. She looked no older than sixteen, or maybe seventeen, with light-colored hair and delicate features, her expression so serene as she watched her with those dark eyes.

I nodded and chewed my bottom lip before deciding on my first question. “You’ve lived a lot of different lives in a lot of different times and places, is there one, in particular, that was your favourite?” He was quiet for a moment before he responded. “Hmm, Victorian Era. It was the first Industrial Revolution, there was a lot of political and social reform happening, a lot of good literature. Loved Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It was so exceedingly different from the time I was born into, that to me it all seemed like magic. The telephone and the telegram were invented.” he chuckles and a small smile is on his face as he talks, recalling different things. “Oh also Frankenstein is a favourite boo
