“Okay. I’ll call and cancel. Let me know when you want to set this up again.” Something was telling me there wouldn’t be a midnight yacht ride in the future, but I didn’t say that to him. Instead, I thanked him and then disconnected the mindlink. “They are never going to talk to me again,” Lila continued to cry; now she had tears streaming down her face. “And Matty will hate me even more.” “Who the hell is Matty?” I found myself asking a little too harshly. “A guy who hates me because I’m a Volana,” Lila pouted. “He says my kind is dangerous. He won’t even give m a chance.”

Before I could reply, the very subject of our conversation made his presence known. “Nina! Enzo!” Matt’s voice echoed across the arena, filled with his characteristic exuberance. I glanced at Enzo, raising an eyebrow as we both turned to greet him. Matt, ever the athlete, was dressed in his usual campus attire—a sleeveless tee, showing off his well-defined arms, shorts, and worn-out sneakers. His hair, a mop of sleek blackness, bounced slightly as he jogged over to us with his hockey bag slung over his shoulder.

“Come in.” She smiled at him and opened the door to let him in. “Hey, Rita, thanks,” he said, walking into the office. Luna stood up from her chair, immediately noticing the worried look on his face. “Hey, Matt,” she greeted him, “what’s going on?” “Hey, Luna,” he answered. “Are we all ready for takeoff? Or is something wrong?” Matt was a tall man with dark hair and green eyes, his dressing ran to the simple variety. He was around Luna’s and Rita’s age and he was a dependable and efficient employee. His handsome face scrunched in worry.

Matthew turned his head to face Rose. “I’m sure that you don’t intend on telling anyone that you’re the Scarlett Witch. But you trust me enough to tell me that. So, I’ll trust you with my own secret.” Matthew paused for a moment, trying to add more tension to his next words. “I’m a Dragon Emperor.” There was a short moment that Rose before she actually reacted. She looked away from him and covered her mouth with her hand. Rose seemed to be holding her laughter back from bursting. Matthew’s eyebrows curled with confusion.

Matt wanted to buy more time because he was unsure of what to do next. He hugged Sergetti and rested his head on his chest. Sergetti held him right to his body. "There will be nothing to worry about. Just trust me" Sergetti rubbed his head. There was nothing else he could do again. He turned around and bent in front of Sergetti. Sergetti was obviously very happy. He grabbed the edge of his pants and pulled wildly. A thought struck Matt. The balls, it was every man's weakness. That should involve a male wizard too.

Matt sighed and shook his head. “No, he doesn’t,” Pru whispered, causing all of us to whip our heads to her. Of course, Pru would be able to tell. “What do you mean?” Matt scratched his head as he looked down at his mate. “She’s right; he doesn’t have powers anymore.” Luna Emma wrapped her arms around her chest. “Why?” Matt just had to keep scratching at this painful scab. “Matt.” I hissed as a warning. “What?” Matt whined. “It’s okay, Luna Rose.” Luna Emma sighed. “Colton lost his gifts ten years ago when my father killed him.”

Matt's once easygoing personality has slipped away to be replaced by the stern deadly Gamma I know hides underneath constant jokes and laughter. With a final nod to me, Matt steps further into the challenge area, his aura swirling around him like a storm. The closer he gets to the center, the more his energy pulsates into the air around us, reaching out into the crowd and making the sitting members shift uncomfortably. He could see her mind swirling with something and so he simply waited to see if she’d say what was on her mind.
