I state, sounding like a philosopher. "Promise me you will come back to me in one piece." He pleads, his eyes twinkling with uncertainty in the befalling darkness. "I promise. For you, for my parents an my missing sister, for our businesses, for everyone who knows Ella Marie Silvano, I will win this. I will come out alive." I vow. A vow! That is what it is to me, and it has been registered in my soul. "I will hold you to that, and I will be here, waiting for you. This is killing me, you know that, don't you?" He queries, his voice losing its vigor, and his eyes, he shuts them. He can no longer bear the pain.

“No, I suppose not.” “Vanessa.” He says my name like a caress, and I turn over to see his blue eyes watching me intently. It was a full one. "You will make the vow, with the goddess as a witness. You cannot break your promise, or there will be grave consequences." The anvil in my stomach became impossibly heavier. Though he didn't express that he liked me, his string of sincere replies made my mood soar uncontrollably. "Alright, I trust you." I closed up the space between us and held his hand. "From now on, I won't be asking such childish questions. Unless you tell me to leave, I will always stick by your side." I assured him. Kent laughed, grabbed my head, and moved it closer to kiss me on the forehead. "Definitely. I have saved your life. You can't go anywhere without my permission." "Mm." He pinched my face, "Call me 'Big Brother.'"

In that quiet moment, Jack made a silent vow to himself. "You have no idea, do you?" he murmured, looking down at the unconscious woman. "You've managed to capture my attention, my heart, even. And though our paths crossed in the strangest of circumstances, I know they're meant to intertwine again." His promise hung in the air, a solemn vow. I said not really having time to prepare a good vow.
