Ugh, finally, love triumphs over everything.” My eyes widened as I looked down at the novel in front of me. It was open to the chapter titled “Please Wait for Me.” The illustration showed him holding my hand, standing by the sea, supporting each other through life.

There was nothing but silence outside the door. There wasn't even a cold response. Time passed slowly. Just as I was about to lose all hope, the door finally opened with a creak. However, the one standing there wasn’t Bruno. It was Raine, whose face was a multitude of complex emotions. She had my neatly packed suitcase next to her and my phone in her hand, which I had dropped on the floor earlier. Raine handed both to me. “I thought you were just playing hard to get. I didn’t expect you were actually leaving.”

That night, Matthew sat on the kitchen floor until morning. It was the first time he had ever looked so defeated. In the past, no matter how late he came home, there was always a light waiting for him. There was always someone sitting on the couch, quietly waiting for him. That was all gone. The big house felt empty, and he was the only one left waiting for daylight. The next morning, Matthew did not bother to change his clothes. He went straight to the office.
