Some wore armour designed around the ridges, fitted with brutal precision. Their eyes were not like wolves or dragons. Colder. Reflective. I made my way there, lowering myself on the seat, and I was greeted with portraits of the alphas that have served badly. They were all men, staring down as if everyone else were beneath them, their faces twisted in scowls. And I made a mental note to have my portrait done. It would be nice to have the only female in the middle of the males. That was enough stargazing. I turned my attention back to the work on my desk, focusing on them. There wasn’t much for me to do today. Instead I busied myself with sending mails to other packs that we had an alliance with, informing them of the new change of leadership, and going over whatever alliance we had made and how to make the most of it.

I had no patience. “I am Krysta Bronzetail, matron of the house.” She didn’t shudder once. “And who might you be? Guards!!!” She called out. “I am Princess Elentari Tirisil, future Goddess of the Night, sister in law to Eliza Bronzetail, the first daughter of House Bronzetail.” I spoke slowly and clearly. “So tell me, how are you the matron of House Bronzetail when you look as if you are only two or three years older than Eliza?”

Before I've fully grasped what Axel said, Marinah sucks in air and screams as her body bursts apart and a Warrior replaces it. "Tighten the straps," Axel yells. We both begin tightening them. I'm in shock as I look at the most beautiful creature I've ever seen. Beast knew. Beast knew she was a Warrior and he knew she could kill us. Something inside me twists. There hasn't been a female Shadow Warrior born since my people left the home planet. It seems impossible, but it's happened.

I heard Ymir's familiar voice call from behind me. I swirled around and it fell on the bloody witch I've been wanting to see. She looked as young as she did back then, she wore a long dark dress and her black hair cascaded down her shoulders. But she wasn't alone. She brought company. It was three other past regent witches she conjured up with necromancy, I could sense their strong magical presence. They all stared at me with bloody intentions of my doom. “Come on Ymir, do you really think that I would be intimidated by these– these parlor tricks?” I say with amusement. “I am the Primordial hybrid! I cannot be killed!!! I am the thing that makes lesser men quiver in fear.”

But Stacy blocked my path, stepping forward and getting uncomfortably close, her eyes burning with intensity. Before I could react, Stacy's grip tightened, and her friends closed in, trapping me from all sides. "She wants to make all the boys like her. Beta Zach, Alpha Marcus, Alpha Ares, and then every fucking man in this pack," Stacy continued, her voice laced with disgust. "She chases after Alpha Marcus like a damn puppy, flaunting that mark on her neck like a goddamn leash. This fucking bitch doesn't even have a wolf, yet she struts around our territory as if she owns it all."

He smiled proudly. It was unbelievable and unexpected to me to hear that this young woman here was a warrior and not just that, but also the leader of the Reapers, the strongest army in the werewolf kingdom. With her strength, one would think that she was a death wolf but hearing that she had the strength of a spirit wolf felt unreal to me. It was just like saying she had the strength of Andrew. Now it was clear to me how she had disfigured me like it was so easy. I released a loud sigh as the realisation settled in. Who knows if I would be able to come out here alive?

“I can't wait for Draven to auction you off to the slaves.” “Oh. I know her,” another exclaimed. “She must be among the women in the army.” I scoffed, rolling my eyes. They were dumber than I expected. “The problem with women is that they don't know when to fall back,” another added. “But things are going to change around here, since Draven is now the Alpha. Women will learn that they only belong to a man.” My fists clenched as my teeth ground together until I thought they might crack. “A woman,” I said, my voice cold. “will be the one to kill you. I will make sure of it.”

Astraea’s face paled. “You’ve doomed us both.” “Perhaps,” I said, smiling faintly, “but at least I’ve doomed us honestly.” The crack widened, spilling darkness that devoured light. Even the Shadowfire recoiled from it. I felt my power waver under the weight of something infinite pressing through. Then I heard it, a voice that didn’t echo so much as rewrite the silence itself.
