She passes Mark a glass. "Why are there five?" I ask her.

We looked at the warriors behind us and together, we announced, “Charge!” There was no need for further conversation. Whatever we say to each other will be useless at this time. All of us had shifted in our wolf form. We roared and ran to attack. The first hybrids I targeted were the ones who shamed me and killed my mother. They moved swiftly, but their speed was nothing to me. When I caught one of them, I scratched his eyes with my paws. His scream had resonated in my ears as I twisted his head and devoured his neck.

"I hope you don't mind chicken." She smiles and takes it, brushing my hand with hers and sending sparks of awareness between us. Which, after many evenings of practice, we both ignore. "You have no idea how good meat tastes after so long without it. I'm craving it morning, noon, and night." She bites into the sandwich and sighs as she chews. "Having very little meat was hard for us when we fought. Shadow Warriors are carnivorous and we get cranky when we don't get the right type of protein."

I got out of bed and got dressed for the day, putting on some jeans ad a shirt, I finished getting ready and met the rest downstairs, all three of my best man, the highest ranking in my pack were just fussing at the little kitten, trying to get her fed. "Let's go," I call out loud, while they kept on fussing over her but I ignored it getting my shoes on and ready to go, all the shoes she got were mary janes, and flats, nothing suitable for our farm life, and nothing to wear around the house, she only wears her socks.

Suddenly, a terrified howl echoed from deep within the forest. A white blur shot out from the trees, fleeing in panic. It was a gray wolf—one of the jungle's fastest predators. The moment Chase saw it, his expression shifted sharply. Without hesitation, he activated Wind Stride, his figure flickering as he dodged the incoming attack from the wolf beast. The young warrior riding the panther beast caught sight of the commotion by the riverbank. His gaze sharpened. "A stray mutt dares to steal my food?"

He strode towards the announcer and pulled out a weapon, “For the Moongray pack.” Members from the Moongray pack cheered for their warrior and I scoffed, patiently waiting for one of my warriors to accept the challenge. Few seconds later, one of my pack warriors growled loudly as his nails elongated. He took slow strides towards the announcer and picked the smallest weapon—a knife.

The cat growled and lunged at him again, teeth bared, but the warrior stepped aside with fluid precision. “Woah! I think that cat’s overdue for a nap.” He said with a chuckle, glancing towards Lyra and motioning to the attacking animal. The wild cat flailed, its sharp teeth gnashing at his wrist, but he didn’t flinch. With a grunt, he swung the creature to the side with a force that sent it tumbling into the wet grass. The wild cat’s body flickered like a mirage for a moment, but it recovered quickly, spinning around and launching itself at the warrior once more, its body a blur of twisted motion.

I smile at the wolves from my pack, noticing two large bucks that are easily the best out of the five deer brought back. “Your wolves seem to be adept at hunting.” Damon states to my father, impressed by our Warriors. My smile widens and I think back to our annual hunt in Nightlock Thorns each fall before the first snowfall. How each wolf that participates is allowed to find the best prey they can and the winner receives a grand prize. Of course my Warriors know how to hunt the best, its been ingrained into them.
