Ash was still weak next to Colton's massive gray wolf. Colton growled as his canines ripped into Ash's beautiful white and brown wolf. He let out a victorious howl as Ash crumbled to the ground. The game was lost before it had started. Ash was no match for Colton. Ash, beautiful, beautiful Ash, with eyes full of innocence, a heart full of sparkling laughter and happiness. He had been her world. She was almost like a mother to him, from his breath.

Dexter brought the pup down gently from our back, and into a grassy part of the forest ground. “All of you,” I called, and their attention instantly snapped to me, “make sure this pup gets to his mother safe and sound, you are dismissed.” Without a single hesitation, the wolves all moved, taking my order into action. They gently placed Asher on the back of their fellow warrior, and with one nod, they marched on out towards the direction of the silver fang. I turned my gaze back to Maddox, staring him directly in the eyes, but he was quick to avoid my glare as he pretended to be watching the warriors leave.

My eyes widened as it finally dawned on me, the realization of a truth I ducked around so much, Asher Blackwood was a werewolf!! It wasn’t over. I tried to scream again as both werewolves lunged at each other. Alpha a ball of silver grey fur and the other, a ball of black. Their teeth bared, snarling and jaws locking in a defiant growl. A low growl ripped through the silence. The warriors stiffened, weapons drawn. From the mist between the trees, a wolf lunged, but not like any wolf I had ever seen. Its fur was streaked with ash and shadow, its eyes burning with the same blue light as the runes. Symbols were carved into its skin, glowing as if alive. “Back!” Kael barked, shoving me behind him as he shifted halfway, claws ripping from his hands. The wolf hit hard, slamming into two warriors and sending them sprawling. It fought like a creature possessed, faster and stronger than anything natural.

“Shift when ready, Kael. Show us your heart.” Kael nodded, his body rippling as he shifted, bones cracking softly, fur sprouting in a fluid transformation. Ash emerged—a towering gray wolf, his scarred muzzle held high, eyes wary but steady. He padded toward Ember, sniffing the air, his presence commanding yet cautious. The pack murmured, some shifting to wolves to observe, their tails wagging with interest. Ember circled Ash, her claws sparking as she tested his stance. “You move with purpose,” Alya’s voice growled through Ember, rich with intrigue. “Let’s see your fight.”

Nothing had prepared me for what waited on the lawn. Ash tore across the yard with his arms out like a tiny plane with no brakes. He stopped mid-roll and hugged the cat like it was the last treasure on earth. “Mommy!” he shouted. “Look! His name is Spaghetti!” I blinked once. Twice. “What?”

Stefan minklinked the warriors to join in and help the demon warriors sustain Asher. Asher growled a warning at them. He released another deathly, shivering growl, warning the warriors to step back, but when no one budged from their position, Asher attacked. He sprang upon the wolves and attacked ferociously with his claws and canines. He moved fast and was attacking some warriors, but Stefan, Cory, Trish and I pushed him off the warriors.
