The warriors stared. The sun was just starting to set and the light caught the fur of our wolves. Being precious metal wolves, our fur is different than normal wolves. It’s soft, like cotton, but looks like it’s a running river of the metal whenever we move or the wind catches it. Combine that with the lighting of a sunset and we looked like our wolves were on fire; mine golden and his orangey bronze. One by one each of the warriors showed their neck to us in submission. I bowed my head acknowledging the gesture. Scout stood proud behind us.

After all, they were the strongest warriors, and much of that strength came from having the Dragon. A thunderous roar tore through the sky once more. Arah’s eyes snapped back to Gildeon as flames traced along its dark, gilded scales like molten lava. The golden ridges along its spine matched the hue of its predatory eyes, and the spikes on its majestic tail radiated heat that was palpable even from a distance. He was terrifying. He was magnificent. He was… beautiful. “Look at that creature,” Feviel muttered with subtle disdain, tossing his sword into the wind. It shifted midair, transforming into one of the owls.

“Vampires? And this… this is not from the Feather clan nor the Wingsman clan.” She traced the pad of her fingers on the feathers. The feathers were slightly unique. It was pointy and rough around the edge. It was somewhat larger than either clan. The Feather clan consisted of numerous bird feathers and the Wingsman clan’s feathers were limited only to their wings. There were striking differences between the Feather clan's and the Wingsman clan’s feathers. The differences were also prominent.

A low growl ripped through the silence. The warriors stiffened, weapons drawn. From the mist between the trees, a wolf lunged, but not like any wolf I had ever seen. Its fur was streaked with ash and shadow, its eyes burning with the same blue light as the runes. Symbols were carved into its skin, glowing as if alive. “Back!” Kael barked, shoving me behind him as he shifted halfway, claws ripping from his hands. The wolf hit hard, slamming into two warriors and sending them sprawling. It fought like a creature possessed, faster and stronger than anything natural.

I stared again at Bo who had quickly gotten the warriors in check. Gone was the playful, baby mask. Now, it was difficult to see that it was one and the same person. I crack the heavy oak panel open just enough to grab the leather bag from her paws. A massive cloud of hot white steam escapes from the stone pool room as my boots slowly slide across the floor. The new tunic Iris brought is a bright, shimmering mix of silver-lake cloth and purple valley leather that is supposed to make me look like an ancient forest prince for the outdoor crystal scrolls. Not many wildland fighters can wear those soft court colors without looking completely silly, but my smooth skin and lean shoulders make the bright fabric look totally natural. I look like a mystical alpha warrior stepping right out of a spirit legend with the hot mist floating all around my chest.

Each warrior seemed to possess an ancient wisdom, their irises reflecting a tapestry of battles fought and victories won. Their movements were a study in perfection, a ballet of strength and agility that seemed to defy the laws of physics. With the grace of predators honed by generations of instinct, they weaved through the chaos, their bodies fluid and seamless in their execution. Every lunge, every parry, every swipe of their claws was executed with unwavering precision—a testament to their unwavering resolve and unyielding loyalty to the pack.

I called out, “before our banquet officially begins, I’d like to present something special. A glimpse of the future under my chairmanship.” I nodded to a guard by the main doors, who blew three short blasts on a silver horn. The massive oak doors swung open, revealing rows of uniformed wolves standing at attention. “Behold,” I announced proudly, “the elite Sapphire Sky warrior formation. The finest fighters in ten territories, trained personally under my supervision.” At my signal, the warriors marched forward in perfect formation, their armor gleaming under the lights. Each carried ceremonial weapons—silver spears and moonstone daggers—that sparkled dangerously.

Most who did were either mated or following the pack's rules that were against abusing the she-wolves. Three tall warriors stood a bit further from where we were. They had a strong presence that captured my attention. Two of them were shirtless and hugely built. They both had dark, blue gloves on their hands, but what got my interest was the fact that they were identical twins. They looked the same with dark ocean blue eyes, slightly red plump lips, and short blonde hair. They were good-looking and I could hear some she-wolves whispering something and giggling happily.
