The cover filled me with a creeping, ice-cold dread. There he was, on the cover. Smiling and looking directly at me, it seemed. The man in yellow. Above that, the title burned itself into my brain: The King Wears Yellow. “And so can you,” I rasped. I placed a weak hand on my forehead and held it there. Was I feverish? Sick, hallucinating? I hadn’t bought that book . . . had I? I’d only glanced through it. Left it at The General Store, because it was just a crock of stupid shit. Hadn’t I only flipped through Bobby’s copy on the way home?

He went home. Aayan told his Dad everything. Yash kept silent for some time, then brought a book. He gave it to Aayan. Aayan "This book?" Yash: "This book is about werewolves. I have read a few pages. Someone kept it outside our house." Aayan looked at the book. The book's cover had a picture of a werewolf. The book looked ancient. Yash, "I don't know who kept it. I don't know how many werewolves are here. I don't know whether this book was given by a friend or an enemy. But I feel you should read it once."

It was impossible for me to read them all. I looked outside again. The sky was starting to darken. I should go back before it gets darker. As I moved to pick up my bag from the table, the corner of my eye caught something. A book on the bottom row of the shelf looked different from the thick gray-covered books. It was a pale yellow book with golden curvy writing on the side. I crouched down, took the book, and read the title. MYSTERIES OF GOLDEN VALLEY THROUGH THE AGES

“I don’t know. Daddy says they protect the city, but I don’t see how. They never do anything.” My finger stopped on a worn out book. The faded writing on the spine said Beasts Of The Wild. I pulled it out and flipped it open in the middle. There was a drawing of a yeti-looking creature called a yowg. The description gave details of height, size and hair colour. Dietary information and habitats were also included. I flicked through more pages and found more creatures, some of which I was familiar with. The names, at least. Unfortunately, the book wasn’t organised into alphabetical order, so I had to search a number of pages before I found what I was looking for: Mouse King.

There was a book and a pen on the coffee table, though, which was something. Crystal leaned over, picked it up, and was disappointed to discover that it wasn't a diary or journal. The title on the book's jacket read: Howard's Amazing Adventure- and according to the back cover, the book told the story of an alien rabbit that had accidentally broken into the earth. Crystal picked up the book, turned a few pages randomly, and finally put it down indifferently.

And now, apparently? A mate. To the most dangerous, most powerful, most terrifyingly hot Alpha King in all of werewolf history. Yeah. That’s a thing now. So naturally… I grabbed Amaya’s dusty, moth-bitten spellbook with shaking fingers and dramatically flopped into the ancient armchair like the forest-drenched drama queen I had officially become. “You’re seriously considering this?” Mr. Yellow said, hopping up beside me with judgment in his whiskers. “After one shirtless vision?”

"Why do you think she brought the book to me?" "That is strange. I don't know. The book..." She blinked. The empty book suddenly began to show some write-up. Jasmine stared at it strangely and she gasped. "I-i... I-i think it is the great book of the witches" she announced. Ryan stood up promptly and walked up to Jasmine. He stared at the book but could not see a thing. "Are you saying this book here is the great book of the witches? The one Stella and Rachel talked about?"

I heard the door to the car open as I dug around in the cardboard box and I looked up to see Daniel and Jai walk in, both of them staring at me. Jai caught sight of the books sitting next to me and he walked over slowly and picked one up. It was the green one, the one entitled The Occult Truth of Lycanthropy. The look he gave me was indecipherable. "A little light reading?" He asked sarcastically, thumbing through the huge, five-hundred page book. I wished in that moment that I could have been small enough to fit in that box and disappear. How embarrassing. "It was just something I found on his shelves," I said, as if that justified it.

On the corner of my eye, I see Milo eating a banana peacefully who was also laughing at Jasper as he was watching him. "Very good answer Jasper!" Rowan blurted with a grin. Jasper laughed off mic and whispered something to Rowan as the two of them laughed together. "Next tweet comes from @heyaitsLydia and her question is for Lucy Jones!" Silas exclaimed. "Her question is, if there would be zombie apocalypse..." Milo trailed as he munches his banana as the shrieks yelled when he was to speak again. "Your boyfriend is so hot." Martha whispered to me.

The yellow was overwhelming, making my eyes water. Had she lost her mind? This woman drove up the fucking wall. Fuck! As I scanned the room, my eyes landed on a figure lying on the floor in the corner. Heaven was sprawled out, wearing devilishly short shorts that left little to the imagination. Her long, toned legs kicked lazily in the air as she read from a book, her mouth stuffed with Skittles. The candy's bright colors seemed to match the yellow of the room, creating a jarring, surreal effect.
