When the Wards Broke

When the Wards Broke

Pain crossed his face. "We were chosen..." Aster smiled. "...to remember." The recording faded. The pool became still once more. No one moved. No one spoke. Finally— the child pulsed. Warm. Certain. Alive. And somewhere deep within the mountain— Blackwood seemed to whisper its oldest secret. Not prison. Not fortress. Not kingdom. Home. No one spoke for a long time. The single word the mountain had whispered lingered in the Council Hall like the final note of a song.

Falling Back to the Way Home

Falling Back to the Way Home

“Not even start about yourself, your princess has run out of fucks to give.” “So. It’s true, then.” My father let out a sigh. “Young Russo’s love drama led to his losing control over the North End.” “I guess so.” I tried to calm the quivering of my lips. “What about it? It’s good for business, isn’t it?”

Lost Wind

Lost Wind

The temperature dropped drastically, the wind that blew felt colder, piercing the skin's surface. The trees swaying in the wind dance a dance of death that is both beautiful and magical, their dance accompanied by the sound of dry leaves, and the leaves singing as the wind blows them. The hoarse singing was muffled, their singing was like a muffled screams. It was like someone who wanted to scream with his neck choking hard, someone who was in a transitional period between life and death. They sang and danced as if it was the end of the world. The last day that humanity can taste before everything is destroyed with nothing left

Devourer of Souls

Devourer of Souls

I put the car into gear, execute a quick U-turn, and drive as quickly as possible—considering the uneven road—out of Tahawus. About halfway back to Clifton Heights, Father Ward flicks on the radio and starts searching for stations, which is usually a lost cause this deep in the woods, especially with a factory-standard AM/FM radio. However, after our visit to Tahawus sound is needed to dispel the eerie quiet that’s fallen over us. Even country music would suffice. After a few seconds of Father Ward pressing Scan, a station blasts in loud and clear. A vibrant, energetic voice booms . . .

SHADOWS OF THE ALPHA

SHADOWS OF THE ALPHA

Morning wasn’t gentle, but it was honest. The ridge on the west line rose like a knuckle, the pines clenched tight around it. Dew slicked the rocks so every step had to be a decision. Jasper let me go ahead sometimes, then eased past, then fell back, not hovering—mapping. Vivian kept pace with me, talking to the wind the way you talk to skittish animals you want to trust you. We listened more than we spoke. That was the lesson. The ground will tell you things if you stop insisting on your own voice.

Though a Mirror Darkly

Though a Mirror Darkly

He didn’t want this, didn’t want to fool with things best left alone . He slapped the wheel. Put the car into drive, turned off Beartown and parked in the pull-off on Hollow. He killed the engine. Sat back and folded his arms, debating with himself until he indulged in another curse he hadn’t used since college. “Fuck it.” Before he understood what he was doing, Father Ward was exiting the car. He shoved his hands into his jacket pockets and stood there in the cool morning air. He examined the area and saw nothing unusual. Thick stands of tall Adirondack pine. Ditches soon to be filled with Black-eyed Susans and milkweed, come summer. Goldenrod and other weeds . . .

Troubled Heart

Troubled Heart

It felt like spring. The next morning, the sky was the kind of bright that only came after a storm—sharp, endless blue stretched over the mountains like a fresh canvas. We didn’t speak much as we packed the last of our things, folding clothes with the easy rhythm of people who knew they were leaving something behind—but not everything. Before we left for the airport, we made one last stop. Four Pines. The drive was quiet, only the hum of the car and Pockets sighing contentedly in the backseat, nestled among bags. As we entered the preserve, the landscape transformed into pine needles and frozen earth, enveloped in a sacred hush.

Bryant truly is such a gifted writer. This is another great story that is absolutely worth a read! Loved the characters/their personalities and the differences they brought to the table that balanced each other out beautifully. As always author - job well done! Cant wait for more from you :)

Great read. As always, Author Bryant keeps you on the edge of your seat. Just enough spice to be spicy but not too much. I love that everything Bryant puts in her books has a purpose. There isn’t a spicy scene just to have one. Everything builds for the storyline and characters. Another 5 star.

Heart Toward the Sky

Heart Toward the Sky

"Stop acting out. The shares, the necklace... everything is yours." "Why do you think I would care?" I retorted, forcefully pulling my wrist free. I couldn't waste any more time there, or I'd miss my flight. I spoke indifferently. "I wish you happiness and a long life together." His lips parted, but I took a step back. "Don't try to stop me. Don't make me despise you." As I stepped toward the doors, the barrage of comments kept refreshing. [Huh? What's going on here? Isn't this supposed to be the grand finale? Don't you want to live happily ever after with Owen?]

Marked From Birth

Marked From Birth

The sun had not yet breached the peaks of the Iron Ridge, but the sky was already a bruised violet, bleeding into a soft, pearlescent grey. In the old days—before the Altar, before the fire—this was the hour of the wolf. It was the time when the pack would run, a singular grey tide flowing through the pines. But Audrey was no longer a wolf, and Lucas was no longer just an Alpha. Audrey stood on the highest precipice of the World-Oak, her bare feet pressing against the silver-barked wood. The tree felt alive beneath her, a low hum vibrating through her soles that matched the beat of her own heart. She closed her eyes, letting her senses drift.
