His tone softened, though frustration still lingered. “Listen, I know you’re scared. I am too, okay? But crying like this? It’s not going to get us out of here.”
The younger boy hiccupped, his face a mess of tears and snot. “I want to go home,” he whispered, his voice filled with despair.
“Me too,” the older boy said, his voice steady now. “But you need to stop crying. If they hear you, it’ll only make things worse for both of us. Do you understand? You don’t want them to beat us up, do you?”
