The silence of the estate was shattered at three in the morning by a sound that bypassed my “madwoman” act and struck directly at my soul. It wasn’t the sound of a locking door or Daniel’s heavy tread; it was a thin, labored whimper coming from the room next door.

It was already too late when I realized that I made a loud creaking noise from pushing the door. “Wh…. Me?” I pointed at myself, acting relatively innocent. “Yes, you, Mr. Early Bird!!!” The woman said in a sarcastic manner. I reckon she’s the headmistress of this school since she was in this cool black and white pantsuit. “Would you mind joining me here?” “Uhm,” I can almost feel my face turn red. This isn’t what I envisioned to happen on my first day, and clearly, I just want to disappear in thin air.

The children clearly loved the two girls, hanging off them and trying to get their attention. A woman looking somewhat frazzled, rushed out, we were early, but that was the plan. We wanted them to be unprepared, and by the look on her face, she wasn't expecting us to be two hours early. The woman rushes over, introducing herself as Mrs. Daley, the headmistress for the dilapidated place. “You must be” She looks around, confused at all my men before her eyes fall on my Beta hesitantly. His aura masked mine, making me appear to be a soldier like the rest of the men. I fought the urge to blast her with mine, to make her step away.

My heart beats faster, unable to forget his outburst earlier. I understand he was angry at me, but his behavior toward me was unjustifiable. I decide it’s better to stare at the corner of the room instead, where Mrs. Humphrey has a few crystals scattered across a small coffee table. “Ah, just in time, Mr. Ledger,” the headmistress declares, her eyes bouncing between all of us. “Are you four ready for the trip?”

I say and they both look at me in shock and sadness. “Come on, the children are eager to meet us.” I say as Charlie guides me up the steps and into the building. I turn to see both of them looking at the building and they both lower their heads. I think they have realised that their actions and behaviour were appalling and there was no need for it. “Oh Miss Williams, it is so nice to finally meet you. My name is Mel, and I’m the headmistress here.” I shake her hand and we begin the introductions.

She's glaring at me with so much rage but I only laugh at her and turn my gaze at her mother's name. "NATHALIE RIZONDE, the headmistress"

I knew for sure that I would be happy there. "This way, please." A voice from behind me jolted me out of my day dream. She was a rotund woman in her early sixties in purple flaired gown. She stood at the end of the flight of stairs that lead to the rooms from the sitting room. "I'm Madeline, the headmistress. And you'll be careful not to call me Maddy for your own good." She cast me an unwelcoming frown. At a single clap of her hands, two shy maids with a bonnet and a peasant gown rush into the open from behind her. "Follow them. They'll lead you to your quarters." She ended and left, with the maids bowing to her.

I walk over to the wall and snatch the poster of it, leaving its remnant still on it. “The place that claims to teach the Youth is busy mocking the ones who need guidance the most.” I place it on the desk, looking fiercely into the eyes of the Headmistress who to my frustration only leans back into her chair with a smirk highlighting her arrogance. I step back and look at Maria, “Let's go. This academy is not worth our time” I say and head towards the door with my sister quietly trailing behind. “Miss Vez” The Headmistress calls out from behind. I stop at the door and exchange a look with Maria before turning my attention to the woman.

“And I'm sure you remember his mother, Stacy.” The headmistress’s smile falters for the briefest moment as her gaze shifts to Stacy, her eyes narrowing slightly. “Ah, yes. Who could forget the Luna who supposedly died and then miraculously came back to life?” Her words drip with thinly veiled sarcasm, each syllable cutting like a blade. Then, as if catching herself, she forces her smile back into place. “Welcome, welcome,” she adds, her tone syrupy but insincere. I want to get angry but I hold myself back because of Stacy and Liam's presence.
