Petra's P.O.V. When I see the enormous spider above us, I want to die. I'm not scared of much, but spiders are the one thing I'm terrified of, with their weird eyes, eight legs, and hairy bodies. I seriously have to stop thinking about the damn thing if I'm going to have any chance of getting us out of here.

But they all grabbed a marker pen and started drawing anywhere they could reach. They all seemed to know what they were drawing. When they finished drawing their individual pictures, they went to a larger blank wall. Where Max drew a big circle, Eden then drew a slightly smaller circle inside of it. Before Jaxon drew some lines connecting the circles. It made it look a little like a clock. But Eden added some wavy lines at the bottom of it. When they finished, they went to a sofa, curled up with Evie and cried. I looked at their pictures. Max had drawn a man’s shaver but with small lightening bolts coming off it, Jaxon had drawn a bucket and Eden had drawn a knife.

I went further and fucked myself with my finger to calm down my clenching pussy, and soon I relaxed. The moment I was done, I was ashamed of myself. For some people they draw what makes them happy.

But life had a way of beating creativity out of you one practical choice at a time. I picked up a small sketchbook, the pages yellowed at the edges. My old doodles greeted me- a half-finished portrait of my mom, a clumsy attempt at drawing my childhood toys, a few dress designs that looked like the result of a sugar rush. But I had been super proud of a wolf portrait I drew later, a fierce one with glinting eyes and a massive jaw. I smiled faintly. “Guess I wasn’t that bad, huh?” Boredom and maybe loneliness made me grab a pencil. I flipped to a blank page, twirling the pencil between my fingers.

I’d been trying to come up with a beautiful design for hours, and to my frustration, I couldn’t create one. I glared at the overflowing trash can. I sighed heavily and grabbed a fresh sheet of bond paper. Frustrated, I started drawing random things, letting out all the anger and frustration I was feeling. I didn’t think this would work. I was stuck here all day, but all I could think about was what I’d witnessed last night. That man was disgusting! He had no shame, doing that kind of thing at his own mother’s party!

I return to my seat and am thankful to have finished before everyone else, who are only now getting up from their chairs to hand in the damn practice to the professor. I search my backpack for a sketchbook, which I carry with me every day, so I don't get bored during free time. I proceed to find the page I've been working on. It's a drawing of a tree, which conveys what we see on the outside but not inside, what we think is good when it isn't. How our eyes and life deceive us, just like that. —Is that you, monster? —I was so focused, better said, relaxed, when this idiot comes to ruin my damn life. He's in front of the desk, waiting for an answer.

I admired the beautiful sight before me and how everything grew together harmoniously. I plucked some orchids and tulips, inhaling their scent. I wandered until my legs were heavy and tired, then I decided to draw. I sat down on the carpet grass and blindfolded myself, and made an imaginary picture of my environment. This is something I have loved doing since I was a child, I can’t explain it but there is this kind of peace I feel within myself once I start drawing. It is as if I'm in my own world without any distractions, just me and my mythical reflections.
