She grumbled incoherent words as she picked her phone. "You are back, Welcome!!!" The message read. Her brows furrowed at the message. Who sent this?

WELCOME BACK, SUBJECT ZERO. And beneath it… My name.

I typed, my heart racing with anticipation as I hit send. A blue tick appeared, signaling that my message had been read. Before long, a reply illuminated the screen. “You alive, fluffball?” The response brought a smile to my face, a wave of nostalgia washing over me. Oh, how I missed him! “Yes, still alive, Jared,” I replied, adding a rolled eyes emoji for good measure. “Too bad, now I have to start annoying u again,” his message followed swiftly.

"The flowers are lovely." We took a bunch of photos as an irritating voice sounded, "Welcome back home, darling. We missed you.”

I was still trying hard to think if it was a dream I had while standing or if it was just a flashback of memory. Again, my phone chimed with another notification. I needed no one to tell me that it was from Harvey. I immediately opened my phone to respond. “Why are you apologizing? It’s not as though you did anything wrong. Although I still need to know what really happened,” her text read. “You don’t have to worry. I’ll keep you posted once I’m back to the office.” I couldn’t stop smiling as I texted her back. It suddenly looked like we were becoming closer as the day went by.

I kissed Mia’s forehead one more time. “I have to get back to work,” I said. “But I’ll be here Wednesday. First thing.” “Promise?” Mia nodded. “Promise.” A hand crossed over my heart, her smile reached mine. I stepped into the hallway. The door clicked shut behind me. My phone buzzed in my bag. I pulled it out. Thumb hovered over the screen. A text message. I stopped walking. An unknown number glowed at the top of the screen. Marcus? Alex? My heart slammed once, hard against my ribs.

My chest tightened. "I've missed you too." He leaned down slowly. Giving me every chance to pull away. I didn't. His kiss was gentle. Unhurried. The kind that asked instead of assumed. When we finally separated... He rested his forehead against mine. "Welcome back." He whispered. A tear slipped down my cheek before I could stop it. He noticed immediately. "Hey..." His voice became softer. "What's wrong?" I shook my head. "Nothing." "It just..." I smiled through the tears.

“Ready Meme” “Ready bitch, let’s do this”, she says. Gabe and Spin get close enough for us to grab ahold of each other, and as Meme grabs my shoulders, I poke at her gut, causing her to giggle profusely and lose her balance before she falls backward off of Gabe’s shoulders and into the water.

She then turned around to see a man wearing a plain white shirt with his hands in his pockets. "Remember me, Kath?" The man spoke again, and a wide smile appeared on his face. "Who... Are you?" Kathilyn asked, looking at him up and down. She never knew or made friends with a police officer before, but he seemed to know her. "How can you not remember me? I'm Liam, Liam Paris. Remember now? Or am I nonexistent in your memories now?" Asked the police officer named Liam. "Liam? What are you doing here?" Kathilyn asked, her eyes wide in surprise. She suddenly remembered all her childhood memories with Liam and the happy moments they had together.

A small smile curled one corner of his mouth. The returning message comes quickly. Thank me when you are back at work.
