“Then someone wiped it.” Zariah wrapped her arms around herself. “What does the countdown mean?” I looked at her, and for once, I hated that I didn’t have an answer. “It means they want us scared,” Darius said. “No,” I said quietly. “They want us distracted.” Both of them looked at me. I stared at the security screens, watching the same empty hallways replay from different angles. “They’re pulling our attention in every direction. The ghost at the gala. The photo. Marcus’s weapon. Now the countdown. They want us reacting instead of thinking.”

He was quickly gone after that, and the father and son could only look at each other. Mr. Salacosa began driving again while Arthur inspected the envelope in his hand. It was pure white, neat and smooth, with a gold plain seal. Art opened it and carefully took out a golden paper. It was just like the envelope, thin, neat, and smooth. Art felt some bulges at the back of the paper so he flipped it around. Written on it were three golden words that were elegantly calligraphed with a black outline: Welcome to Delta.

The feral, vicious underdog who had crawled his way up from the dirt took over. "Haley!" Jack roared, his Void arm pulsing with a darkness that threatened to swallow the light. "I need a backdoor! "Give them the worst, most annoying, chaotic pop-up ads your probability field can generate! Crash their browser!" Haley’s eyes widened with a wicked, chaotic glee. She slapped her hands onto the ground, unleashing her reality-anchoring chaos.

While he was still yawning and rubbing his eyes, the PC came on. After booting, the first thing he did was check out the site where the aspiring maids were to fill their forms. He clicked on the number of participants and he saw more than two thousand participants. "Wow." He exclaimed. As of yesterday evening, he saw One thousand Five hundred participants, which means more than five hundred joined overnight.
