"I love you, my little general. Sleep tight." I tucked the covers up to his chin, took one last look at his peaceful face, and stepped out of the door. The walk to the main house felt longer tonight, like I was walking toward a cliff I knew I was going to be pushed off of. Going to his bedroom felt even worst, like a descent into the gallows. I reached the massive bedroom doors and gave a quiet, hesitant knock. To my surprise, the door swung open almost instantly. Mr Vale stood there, his presence looming and dark, before he turned back into the room without a word.

The alleyway was completely empty, save for a few rusted trash bins and the flickering glow of a broken streetlamp. Narrowing her eyes, Seven accelerated her pace. Her rented apartment wasn't far away; it was well within walking distance from the bar, located in a slightly weathered residential block just past the commercial district. Ordinarily, walking alone at night didn't bother her in the slightest. Her training made her more dangerous than ninety-nine percent of the predators lurking in the dark. She was just about to round a sharp corner leading toward the main avenue when a sudden, sharp fwhipt sliced through the quiet air.

Her eyes widened, and she saw the smirk tug at the corner of his lips. “I-I’ll go with you,” she stammered, swallowing hard. She couldn’t help but grip his collar and pull him closer.
