What Can I Do With A Creative Writing Degree Novels & Stories

I got to work overtime. I took classes when I could, worked my regular shift, filled in when needed, and still took time to spend with Nate. I am graduating from USC with a creative writing diploma and photography. I love what I do. I just started writing a book and already got a ton of offers from online platforms to add my book with nonexclusive contracts. Lexie found out about my book and got me an awesome deal with a publishing company she started working with soon after she graduated from Stanford. I was bound to keep my promise to mom. I'd go on with my life and make the best out of it, for me, and Nate.

We ate, chatted and laughed about other things. When I got back, I laid on my bed and looked at the ceiling thinking about what getting the job at the company would do for me. It would not only be a boost to my financial life but it would also be important for my career. I would have the opportunity to express myself through writing. I never felt that I fully utilised my creativity at my current jobs. I fell asleep that day thinking about what my life would be like as a content writer at D. M. Corps. Ltd.

Anyway, I am so excited to be starting my class tonight. The class that I will be taking tonight is a creative writing class. Writing is a little hobby of mine; it is just something that I always loved to do. Where I can express all my feelings. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I will be taking the class at Dayton Community College, and it starts at 6 p.m.

I sigh in boredom scanning a paragraph about one student’s visit to Walden Pond after a thorough exploration of Thoreau. Did none of them actually listen to the assignment? I’m not looking for them to brag about esoteric literary pursuits. This is a creative writing class, for Christ’s sake. I asked them how literature influenced their imagination. Rolling my eyes after reading another paragraph as dry as sawdust detailing one student’s obsession with Hemingway, I shut off my laptop, frowning at the clock on my wall that tick-tocks in mockery at my frustration, and make up my mind.

“I like… I like reading a lot. Prose, poems, books. Anything literature. I tried writing once, but life happened and I had to stop. But that passion has never gone away.” Axel clapped once. “It’s settled then. We have a writer in the making. You don't really need a degree to be a writer but there are some things you have to learn. Like English, Creative Writing, Literature–” I turned to him, my eyes wide. “What? Just like that?”

My senior year is a whirlwind. I’m in all advanced classes and spend a lot of time studying. When I graduate, I will have a Bachelor’s of Creative Arts and Writing. That was my Epiphone. Just because I’ll be required to love among and lead my pack, doesn’t mean I can’t still express my creativity. In fact, my senior project is the play I began writing as a 17-year-old human with intense complexes and assassins on her heals. The story follows my own, sometimes a little too closely, but it seems like the perfect way to blend my two lives together.

I finally found a little section with more information about London. She walked dogs and worked at a diner too. I made a face at that. How had a degree in English literature and creative writing turned into waitressing and canine babysitting? On further investigation, I found out that she was also a writer. The mind immediately flashed back to something she had said some days ago. Something that I hadn't thought much of as of then. If I decided today to quit my job and then I became, maybe, a struggling writer, crying over meeting deadlines instead of securing business deals and trying to sell ten copies in a year instead of getting promotions, would you still think I was such a prize?

I walk down the corridor and enter the great lecture hall. Damn, see this takes me back. After I moved to America, I wanted to expand my business into Publishing. Firstly I wanted to make sure that I did so authentically. I attended the University of Pennsylvania to obtain not only a Bachelors’s degree but also a Master’s degree in Literature, and Creative writing. Business and Marketing. I wanted to do everything I could, to make sure my efforts were successful. I wanted to be sure that my business thrived and provided jobs to everyone that it could. That is part of why I am here today, to help guide these children into the field, to teach them, and help prepare them.

To hone her narrative control, perhaps drama and film studies would be more apt. However, the Chinese Literature major was classified under humanities, while drama and film studies were in the arts category. Transferring between these disciplines wasn't permissible, so she had to drop the idea. Now that someone was offering help, she thought she might as well challenge them with an intricate issue. She told Alex Ye, "I don't necessarily want to be a screenwriter, but certain techniques are universally applicable across related fields." Elevating her position, she added, "You know, both Brandon and I are involved in creative fields, and we share fundamentally similar challenges."

he smiled brightly. "Maybe you should consider getting a career out of your hobbies" Lucas added after a second silence. "How?" Alice asked, perplexed. "You love reading, right? You can start writing about most of the topics you read. It can be a book, or even short articles. You can start a blog online and get followers. You'd make money too" he explained. Alice was picturing it as a very good idea, "I have never thought of that before. Thank you. It's a beautiful idea and I know I'll start working on it" she smiled.
