They were the words of a fighter. The General stopped. She looked at June with interest. "There it is. The Benson fire. You are learning, 03.. You are outnumbered." The soldiers stepped closer. The blue light in their eyes grew brighter. It pulsed with the Generals breathing. June felt a sharp pain in her left arm. The purple vein began to throb. It was not just energy; it was a warning. She looked at Hope. The silver girl was shaking. Her skin was turning into a silver puddle at Junes feet.

Marcus stared directly into the lens, lifted his assault rifle, and smiled. The security feed violently cut to black.

"How many?" "Six. Maybe eight. Armed." I close my eyes. The whiskey burns in my chest. "Do not engage, wait for my signal and if something goes wrong then you know what to do." I hang up and stare at my reflection in the window. A stranger looks back – dark circles under his eyes, a scar through his eyebrow, a mouth that has forgotten how to smile.

He waves his gun at Blake, motioning for him to step aside. “Blake Parker, it is time to leave. Alpha Robert has made it clear that you are not to join the game. My comrade here will guide you to the viewing station where you will be able to enjoy the show along with elite members of our land.” Blake chuckles bitterly. “Enjoy the show? It’s mass murder you dumb fucks.”
