Texted The Wrong Brother
She read what she'd written.
She thought about beginnings. About where this one started: was it the garden in 2007, or the hedge in all the years after, or the paper crane on the doorstep, or the library slip in the book, or the corridor in October of year twelve, or the wrong number, or the moment in the kitchen in Birchwood when he'd asked why did he donate anonymously?' and she'd known then, somewhere, that the question was going to change the shape of things?
She thought: it doesn't have a single start. It has many starts. Every time one of them turned toward the other without naming it, that was a start. The starts accumulated until there were enough of them to become a thing.
