If she followed the crowd, she would arrive at the station too late, and the sun would set completely.
"There's a shortcut right over there," Claire muttered, spotting a narrow alley that locals often used to cut through toward the station area.
Without thinking twice, Claire turned into the passage. It was tight, sandwiched between tall, grimy walls of old buildings. The fading evening light struggled to penetrate the space, casting long, terrifying shadows.
The noise of construction slowly faded, replaced by an eerie, suffocating silence. Claire quickened her pace, the click-clack of her high heels resonating sharply between the walls. The alley felt much longer than she remembered.
