I felt like I was floating in a vacuum, a world without noise or distraction. **************************** Nicholas's eyes fluttered open; he was met with a warm, golden light that seemed to dance across his face. He blinked, confused, as his gaze adjusted to the new surroundings. The bright, white light he had seen just moments before still lingered in his mind, leaving him disoriented and unsure of what was real.

He was quiet for another moment. Then he looked up at me.. His eyes were different. Not the Sebastian Hale eyes that I was used to the controlled ones, the ones, the ones that always gave just enough and held back everything else. His eyes now were just open. Just completely open in a way that made something tighten in my chest immediately. "The bet " he said quietly. I frowned. "What bet?"

I quickly hid in the shadows and not a second later, the door opened and the alpha came in, taking his seat beside her bed. “Hey baby, there was a fire but everything is settled now." He said to her, then a surprising thing happened. Her eyes moved under her eyelids. “Wren? Baby, open your eyes for me!" He urged. With bated breath, we both watched her eyes flutter open. The alpha laughed, a sound watery and full of disbelief. Hot white fury mixed with frustration rolled over me. Next time, I silently vowed as I crept out of the room

Her words settle into me, quiet and real. I nod slowly. “Sit up a little,” she encourages. With help, I shift. Pain stings sharply, making me hiss under my breath, but I push through it. My body protests, but my heart is louder now. She places him in my arms. The weight of him is real. Warm. Fragile. My breath catches. He opens his eyes. Blue. Not just blue—deep, endless, like the ocean stretching forever. I have never seen eyes like this before. They stare up at me, curious and searching, and something inside me breaks open completely.

Audrey POV: I opened my eyes to extremely bright light and shut them immediately, hissing at the intensity. Then I waited for a moment when the eyes would possibly relax, and seemed less than before. So I opened my eyes, briefly roaming everywhere, before looking at the edge of my bed.

Not the silken hush of a bed that belonged to a different life. Grey met him instead. Alexander swallowed, and the motion felt too large in his throat. Because the truth settled fully the moment his eyes did.

And maybe when she gets back inside that book the plot will suddenly change and Assi will come to life again. Assi closed her eyes and asked for her advice. Only then did the comic suddenly shine. Its light was dazzling and painful to the eyes so she couldn't help but close her eyes as well. She only open her eyes when the light finally disappeared.
