SECOND VERDICT
She was holding a bottle of champagne.
"I was going to open this when I got in," she said, "but since I cannot get in, I figured the neighbors who let me bother them at nine PM deserved it more." She looked at Emma first. Then Alex. Smiled at both of them. "I'm Raines. Raines Webster."
"Emma Parker." Emma stepped back from the door. "This is Alex Richardson."
"Come in," Alex said.
Raines came in and looked around the apartment with the same open curiosity she had aimed at the hallway. Her eyes moved across the bookshelves, the artwork, the Hartley files still spread across the dining table, Emma's boots by the door beside Alex's.
