Chapter 15: Sisu I can't believe we were finally here. After months of running, we have finally found a place to hide. A small Mexican town, far away from Bruno's reach. It was a busy day for me yesterday so this morning, I stood in front of the little apartment we're staying and I took a deep breath appreciating the humid air. It was a relief to be away from Texas, where we have been hunted by Bruno. But even here, I couldn't shake the feeling that we weren't safe and that we were being watched. It's a feeling that makes me nostalgic.

Hot. It was scorching hot, and really dark. Feeling exhausted, I panted and bent over, hands on knees. A trickle of sweat ran down my spine and my hair plastered on my head. I was on a lone street, everything looking weird and out of place until I noticed Mama Owen’s closed shop in a distance. A closer look on the route, I realised this was the street leading camp. I was back at Westfalls but it didn’t feel like Westfalls. It was creepily quiet except for the howling wind. The only source of light was the moonlight.

Strangely, I was beginning to appreciate the company. “Where are we?” I asked. “Where is the uh - the pack located?” “A bit south of Spearfish, in the Black Hills. Have you been out this direction before?” I shook my head. “Here, can you scootch over?” Oliver moved back over to sitting on the edge of my bed. I slowly - painfully - made some space for him. He settled in beside me, pulled out his phone, and opened up his photo gallery. Most of the pictures looked like scenery photos. He scrolled through, showing me quick snapshots of the area.

But now, not only they tried to manipulate her - her boyfriend, her trusted man threw her here. 'This freaking unfair world. I will kill everyone.' The garden could cover the whole football stadium and the lone mansion was the center of it.

When it seemed they hadn't noticed us, we took the opposite way. We were still deep in Kerns, where the school was only a few miles from here. My house, though, was farther, which was a relief. I didn't have to see that place anymore. I didn't have to suffer another night with a broken bladder. No screened windows, no cracked paint on the ceilings. The world had gotten wider for me. Yet more dangerous. At least the sickos didn't seem to keep victims locked in a room and beat them up without reason. They ate them straight, which was almost a mercy.

I followed the faint trail, red mud, scuffs in the dirt, and it led me straight into the woods. They didn’t even bother to cover their tracks. Cowards never do. I knew the girls had something to do with it. But this? This level of damage? They had backup. Outsiders. I’d deal with the girls at school. Make them piss themselves with just one look. But right now? Right now, I had business to handle. Man to man. The trail led to the back of an abandoned training shed, where the air reeked of rust, stale sweat, and cobwebs.
