Sasha’s heart hammered in her chest as the black bus finally slowed down, pulling in front of an old, worn-out building on the outskirts of town. The structure was a far cry from the bustling marketplace—it looked abandoned, with faded graffiti scrawled across the crumbling walls and shattered windows reflecting the golden hues of the setting sun. It was tucked between two larger warehouses, hidden in plain sight, and the air around it felt oppressive, like a place where unspeakable things had happened.

Nora P.O.V We pulled up to a weathered apartment building on the bad side of town. The streets were cracked, littered with broken bottles and crumpled paper bags, and the walls of the nearby buildings were covered in fading graffiti. The people here looked rough, wearing old clothes and eyeing us with suspicion as we parked the car. A group of men huddled around a broken fire hydrant, speaking in hushed voices, watching us as we walked past.

Things have to change. I walk outside into the snowy evening air and slide into the front seat of the car. My dad, who insists on driving himself everywhere, grips the wheel while Mom sighs heavily in the backseat, cracking open a book. None of us speak for the first two hours of the journey. The landscape shifts, the open plains and sparse forests of Crimson Peak giving way to the more mountainous outer stretches of Scarlet Thunder’s territory. This is my home. This place, these people, I’ll rule over one day–as soon as I’m ready.

From there, we have a game plan. However, I simply nodded despite the twitches in my stomach. This place couldn’t be farther from the affluent buildings and culture of this pack; this was a hell hole. Why was nobody helping these people…why was Erik allowing this to happen. Their eyes inspect me with scrutinising stares, their demeanours aggressive as I cross the threshold, entering into their den. Tents billowed in the cold mountainous breeze; snow layered the ground as a reminder of just how cold these turbulent lands were. I hadn’t thought for a minute that people would live outside of the main pack buildings, the mountains were dangerous and unforgiving….I had only seen a small fraction of the Snow Mountain pack lands.

Michael’s POV The air felt wrong the moment we stepped out of the car, like the ground itself was holding its breath, waiting for something inevitable to happen. I adjusted the sleeves of my jacket slightly as my eyes scanned the area in front of us. The location Hale had given us was just outside the main part of town, an abandoned industrial site that had long been forgotten by anyone who didn’t have a reason to come here. Perfect for something illegal. “You sure this is the place?” Nick muttered beside me, his voice low as he shut the car door quietly.

** "The Shack" was a rundown piece of shit that made me miss the vampire-mansion-lair-dungeon-of-doom. It was in the middle of nowhere. Literally, it was in the middle of nowhere. The only neighbors were some gators in the bayou and maybe some birds and lizards. Oh! And don't forget those crickets! The shack was nestled deep in a bayou that was probably on no map in existence. Abraham told Hezekiah to make sure that we weren't followed—that was a pretty easy task to fulfill.

She might not have noticed it but Jasper also didn't seem to know this place too well, if I needed any answers it will certainly be from her. I love this place. The only problem is that it's far from the city, it's situated in the outskirts of the city, close to the suburbs. Far from civilization. A place where no one can find me.
