The torture scene will be inbetween the **** XANDER POV Fletcher and I are sitting in the lawn chairs we keep outside the building, on the furthest edge of his parents’ property. They live on the outskirts of a small human town, no wolves or rogues wander through. Making it the perfect space to hide from those searching for them. The entire area is a dead zone. No internet, cell phones, or security. Completely off grid and the perfect place to hide.

If he had to drive himself, he’d blast rock music the whole way. But now… now he was listening to a girl humming and chattering beside him, bouncing between pop songs and celebrity gossip, with the sound of rain in the background. Somehow, it all felt warm. Full. Like real life. The orphanage they were headed to was on the outskirts of East Coast. Not too far. By the time they arrived, the downpour had softened into a steady drizzle. Just as Mia predicted, the entire building was pitch black. The power was out.

​Ruby’s POV ​The air inside the abandoned warehouse district on the outskirts of Chicago smelled of rust, old rain, and impending victory. ​Chloe had selected the location—a sterile, concrete loft space currently under development by a Bells subsidiary. It was completely private, entirely secure, and far away from the prying eyes of the Magnificent Mile. Outside, the cold Midwestern wind howled against the reinforced glass windows, but inside, the tension was thick enough to suffocate.

AUTHOR’S POV Elle shivered as the car rolled into the abandoned factory's compound. The sight of the place screamed danger. “Why do people like to stay in places like this?” she muttered to herself as the car rolled to a stop in front of the warehouse. The building was tucked deep in the outskirts of the abandoned industrial zone which now served as a slum for homeless people. Elle stepped out of the black SUV, her boots crunching over shards of broken glass and gravel as she eyed the even more creepy building.

“Now, if you’ll excuse me….” “Fine. If you’d rather read that book than talk to me….” He put the book down. “What would you like to talk about?” Cassidy shrugged. “I don’t know. What’s life like in Pryor, Oklahoma?” “Boring as hell,” he admitted. “How about Shenandoah, Iowa?” She considered the question. “Well, it was pretty boring. Until last year when everything started to get so weird.” “Yeah, I guess so.”
