VALERIA'S POV The book floated for a few seconds and then it fell leaving the page open. I scanned the room for any presence but I couldn't feel any. I picked up the book and I had read this particular page casually but now it made sense I wondered how I missed it earlier. I read the words out loud and the book radiated a bright light. It was so bright that I thought I would get blind but looking at it. I waited till the light died out and closed the book and in my attempt to go inform Araida, my legs failed me as they wobbled making me fall to the floor.

Its pages flipped rapidly by themselves, stopping at an almost blank page, only a small illustration in the center: a medal with a split sun emblem. "What does it mean?" Kit asked. Before Siron could answer, the apartment lights went out. Total darkness. Only moonlight from behind the curtains illuminated the room. They froze. Then, one by one, the books on Siron's shelf began to fall. Thud. Thud. Thud. Not messily. But orderly, as if someone was deliberately throwing them. The first book fell near Siron's feet. The second near Kit. The third, the fourth, forming a semicircle around them.

The open page showed neat rows of words written in small, careful script: They say the Light has no shadow, but even stars fall upon the ground. She smiled faintly, then closed the book and covered him with her cloak. When she stepped outside, the snow had stopped. The sky was clear, the stars so sharp they seemed to hum. Frost had crept higher along the chapel walls, spiraling into intricate patterns that glowed faintly with silver light. Balance was stirring, restless. Lucien approached from the gate, his breath misting in the cold. “The fires from the valley are visible now. You can see them from the ridge.”

Whoever it was was probably hiding somewhere around here. He bent slightly and picked a book in the dark. The room was dark, but he could feel the edges of the book. He dropped it on the table and crept towards a shelf close by.

The book began to glow with a blinding, white light. “I am going to the Cradle of Ancients,” she said. “And I am going alone.” “Like hell you are!” Ash yelled, stepping toward her. “Stay back!” Rhea screamed, and the light from the journal exploded, filling the room with a force that knocked everyone to their knees.

Chapter 18: A Day of Light The sun hung low in the sky, casting a golden hue across the landscape outside the castle. It was the first truly peaceful morning Karina had experienced in what felt like a lifetime. The weight of the past few weeks—the secrets, the betrayals, the fears—seemed to melt away in the warmth of the early sunlight. It was as if the world outside had decided to pause and give them a moment to breathe.

Panni felt a sharp, searing pain in her shoulder, and then they were falling—falling away from the violet lights of the Manor and into the dark, cold embrace of the city night. (Watch out for the next chapter)
